Don't Hold Your Breath

Rate: 3 Flag

I have a pre-existing medical condition.  I have asthma.  I never really thought about it until I learned that up until a few weeks ago, insurance companies could legally deny me coverage in most states because of it.  I've been faithfully paying medical insurance premiums for over thirty years and never made a significant claim. I take my health very seriously.  I eat well, exercise regularly, don't smoke and get a yearly physical. I weigh the same today as the day I graduated from high school.  I rode my bicycle a total of 3,000 miles this season.  But I have asthma and because of that, an insurance company could refuse to cover me.  At least they could until a few weeks ago when "Obamacare" made it illegal.  Today, we have politicians running on the campaign promise that they will repeal "Obamacare" and they want my vote.

If you have a pre-existing condition, remember that they want your vote too.  High blood pressure, diabetes, acne, hay fever, whatever, they want your vote - and if you are unfortunate in these economic times, lose your job and miss a insurance payment, they want to make it legal for you to be banned from being allowed to get health insurance.

So do yourself a favor before Election Day.  Call your doctor and ask for a copy of your medical records.  If you have any record of any illness, injury, chronic condition, or congenital defect, the wrong vote on November 2nd could mean an end to your health insurance.

I have some advice for any politician who is running against the health care reforms of the Obama administration.  If you're waiting for me to vote for something that may mean an end to my health care, don't hold your breath.

Gotta hand it to the Republicroids. They sure know how to market their version of snake oil to the boobousie. And their catchy sound bits on health care mesh perfectly with their evil nostrums for the economy. Cut taxes! Reduce government spending! Instant prosperity!
Yep, they're screaming "Obamacare" on the airwaves here too. Also targeting the Dems for the voting for the "Wall Street Bailout." Hmm, didn't that all start with W?

I can't watch television this time of year. Political advertising should be banned. What I want to know, feral, is about all those miles on the bike. Gotta be a post in there somewhere...
...about the bike.
I used to run 20-30 miles a week. When I was 33, I injured my foot and could not run, so I took out an old "10-speed" and used that to fill in until my foot healed. It turned out that I was a better rider than a runner. I was a "middle/end of the pack runner" at any 10K race but at my first Century (100 miles), I finished in the top 5 out of 50 riders - on the old bike.
I've been riding ever since, weather permitting, and get about 3,000 miles in April-September.
My bike is something to brag about, one of the few things I own that's really special. The frame was custom designed and built for me at Independent Fabrications in Somerville Massachusetts and the wheels are a blend of aluminum rims with carbon fiber and Kevlar spokes. It's a steel bike that weighs less than 17 pounds.

Oh, and I always wear a helmet. I've crashed twice and cracked two helmets.
Sweet. I mountain bike a little. Helmet and gloves have saved me a lot of skin and scalp.
