Ten Things On My Mind

Rate: 3 Flag

1.      It is imperative for the success of the predators of our nation that the prey believe in concepts like "limited government" and "free markets" as being in everyone's best interest.

2.      If we truly want to end illegal immigration, all we need to do is end the demand for cheap, illegal, oppressed labor in America.   Of course, this will require the arrest, conviction and imprisonment of people like Meg Whitman, Mitt Romney, Robert Kraft and a host of other multi-millionaires who have hired illegal labor.  It will also require criminal proceedings against Wal-Mart and many of the Fortune 500 companies in the USA who create a market for illegal labor.  We arrest drug addicts in our war against illegal drugs flowing into the USA.  Why not apply the same approach to the flow of illegal labor?

3.      We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America...sure has a "socialist" feel to it, doesn't it?

4.      If Glen Beck opposes unions, why does Glenn Beck support the Chamber of Commerce, a union of business owners?  Could it be that Mr. Beck is just against labor unions?

5.      When Christians tell me that their material wealth is a sign of God's blessings, how do they explain that Jesus was poor?

6.      Most of what we have or do not have in this world is the product of blind chance, what Camus called the gentle indifference of the world.  We do not get to choose the time of our birth, our physical or mental capacity, our health or the community or family we are born into.  While responsibility, perseverance, and dedication matter; random circumstances matter more.

7.      The notion of the self made man is arrogant and ignorant.

8.      Quoting the founding fathers to support ones argument is like quoting the Bible.  One can find whatever one needs-and if not- one can twist the interpretation to fit the bill.

9.      If you want to find the truth, follow the money.   The Latin phrase for this is Cui Bono - who benefits?  When men like the Billionaire Koch Brothers (self made sons who inherited their fortune) support the Tea Party, it's hard to see the Tea Party as a populist uprising that will help the middle class.

10.  When someone is running for an elected position in my government and their campaign message is that they know how to run a business, why don’t they stick to what they do best and run a business? Why not let someone who knows how to run a government run the government?

Dear Banished:

How is it that I call myself a Liberal and agree with you? Perhaps we are more perfect than we think.

STOP THE ADVANCE OF THE 451s
I agree with all of these, and particularly like the fifth and sixth ones. Rated.
Perhaps the systematic destruction of the labor unions actually led to illegal immigration. Can't imagine Jose taking away a Teamster job without a ruckus... As usual your thoughts are full of common sense. Not sure why you're not read more. OPEN SALON READ THIS GUY NOW!
Ten points I heartily agree with, and have been wondering why more people aren't openly talking about.

Elijah Rising asked "How is it that I call myself a Liberal and agree with you?" (I could probably ask the same.) I think it is because what we are talking about is the well-being of all the people, hopefully in the context of good governance. When did such a concept become so politicized and marginalized?
