GRAY is the Color of My CAT

Rate: 11 Flag

Today I would like to honor my cat, who, though he has been my companion for over 12 years now, spends every Christmas alone, since every year, the wife and I spend Christmas with my family, who lives 2 hours away.  I can’t say it better than Lt. Cmdr. Data did in a poem to his cat, Spot, in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Schisms”:

Ode to Spot

Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature?
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications
that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection.

 A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion,
it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

This one's for you, Kitty.

Merry Christmas!
Damn, man, where did you find this and how long did it take? Or did you transcribe it from watching the episode? This is an awesome ode to the feline species
Who transcribes anything these days? Seriously, if it's Star Trek references you're looking for, trust me someone else has already transcribed it for you. The only thing I had to remember was the title "Ode to Spot". Google did the rest...
i like this very much. I have two gray cats that could be twins, or I suppose triplets.
"the Imperial Majesty Kitty"

Awesome!
:-)
My own cats, Elvis and Gracie--and the feral colony we feed (Thing 1, Thing 2, Thing 3, and Peabody)--are laughing with me.
Things 1, 2, & 3 and Peabody? Now I'm laughing.
I'm with Stud! I thought I had seen them all, but I don't remember this one

Here's the video, for everyone who missed it:

What a handsome boy! Merry Christmas!
Data's poem cracked me when I heard it on the show. Star Trek, in its various incarnations, gave us a fair bit of humor over the years.
