Public Service Announcement - The Heartbreak of DOA

Rate: 8 Flag

I'd like to bring your attention to a crippling disorder that is afflicting millions of North Americans every day. It's called DOA--Delayed Onset Adulthood. You've probably never heard of it, but neither have 99% of the people who are suffering from this heartbreaking disease.

DOA is a spectrum disorder that most commonly strikes men and women between the ages of 25 and 40. Its symptoms, which range in severity from only occasionally noticeable to completely debilitating, are varied. Some DOA sufferers are incapable of self-regulating or of making even the simplest decisions on their own without checking in with their entire Facebook or blog cohort; others have completely lost perspective on reality, preferring instead to continue to believe they are as special as their parents told them they are, and that they will indeed eventually become the next big thing on the indie music scene despite the fact that they work in an office and haven't touched their Casio keyboard in over 18 months, and then only to look for some rolling papers.

But there is a cure. A simple procedure, called a cranio-rectal extraction, relieves virtually all symptoms of DOA. So if you or someone you love is suffering from DOA, don't hesitate. Call us now. We can help. 1-888-HEAD-OUT.

This public service announcement has been brought to you by FUCUP (Federation for Underachievers Coping with Unrealized Potential).

Wow, being outside the target demographic of this horrible affliction this is good to know. This is obviously attributed to silicone based chips. IF it were for cell phones PDAs and laptops, we could find a cure for this terrible disease. Rated.
You are very funny. If you are interested in coming to the Vancouver OS meetup this Thursday, let me know! There aren't too many of us here.
Huh. Every one of my ex-boyfriends was suffering from this debilitating illness. And they were all musicians! What are the odds?
Funny! It's good to know they recognise it as a disease now. I didn't know there was a cure!
Thanks for taking the time to comment OE, Emma, Odette and TV. Glad you enjoyed!
Very Funny. Loved the "preferring instead to continue to believe they are as special as their parents told them they are, " line!
AnnMarie, I unexpectely found your post after reciprocating a visit to mine. I am soooooo glad that I did. This is flat-out funny. I read it twice, actually. I have discussed this problem of our generation on numerous occasions. "Dead On Arrival" would also work for this demographic .

I get constant crap for my refusal to fully participate in the trends, but I find them distracting from what I need to focus on in my life to keep my balance. Some people are annoyed at my lack of cell phone, call waiting, and FB account to keep in contact. But I like the feeling of freedom it provides.

great topic! thanks
This is genius....loved and rated!
Not only hilarious, but is it wrong that I recognize myself in your writing? Ugh...
