It was the best of times, it was the FIRST of times...

Rate: 4 Flag

1. Who was your FIRST prom date?

CM. His grad, my grade 11. We weren't really dating, but... I had an up-do, (I had hair for chrissakes) and even now, looking at the pictures, it's the first time I think I looked like a grown up.

2. Who was your FIRST love and do you still talk with him/her?

SG. And yes. We even sometimes hang out. And have too many drinks.

3. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink?

My folks would be mortified to hear this, but my first drink was beer at 2 years old. Apparently I really liked the taste of it, and everyone thought it was cute to give the baby a sip. Apparently at two I could really work a room. It wasn't until several hours later when mum tried to change me into my PJs that she realized I had the spins and that was why I was crying so much.

4. What was your FIRST job?

Apart from babysitting or stage acting jobs, my first real gig was as a private waitress in the summer residence of the granddaughter of the inventor of the telephone. I lived in the house 5 days per week, wore a green uniform and apron, and responded to a bell. But I did get to see a lot of amazing Bell artifacts.

5. What was your FIRST car?

1982 Chevette. Silver with primer spots. His name was Munch the Lunchcan on Wheels.

6. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?

The Ginger Ninja. For long weekend plans.

7. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?

E. Because he had built what we affectionately refer to as "the firewall"--a barrier of pillows that keeps the intense heat of Furnace Girl (me) away from him in the 30 degree celcius night.

8. Who was your FIRST grade teacher?

Mrs. MacNeil. She had a car that talked. But not as cool as KIT. It just told you that "Your door is ajar."

9. When and where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?

I was 14 and flew to St. Pierre, a small island that belongs to France which lies off the coast of Newfoundland. During this trip I learned that there are more options for dealing with stress than flight or fight. There is also sleep--my preferred response.

10. Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk?

LC. Not really, but we're in touch on Facebook.

11. Where was your FIRST sleepover?

Oddly enough, I don't really remember. Probably at LC's house for her birthday.

12. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today?

I generally speak to the animals, Lumsden (dog) and Nerm (cat) first. But humans? E.

13. Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time?

My aunt's wedding. I had to do readings in the church in front of the entire congregation. I wore a special white satin dress with a mint green sash and thought I was the shit.

14. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?

Shuffled to the kitchen to make coffee.

15. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to?

I'm getting scared now. Turns out entire slices of my childhood are missing. Weird. Has anyone seen my childhood?

16. FIRST tattoo?

Thistle. At the top of my back. My last name's MacKinnon. What else would ou expect?

17. FIRST piercing?

Ears. I was 7 and it was a gift for doing well in school that year. I was petrified, then, when it was over, completely non-chalant.

18. FIRST foreign country you've been to?

I guess technically, France (see # 9), but other than that, the US.

19. FIRST movie you remember seeing in the theater?

Enter the Dragon--at the drive-in with my parents. Mum was asleep. I watched from the back seat all bundled in my blankets.

20. FIRST Detention you had?

No detention. I don't think that's allowed in rural schools. I did get locked in a dark closet for talking while the teacher was out of the room. Let me tell you, that's the express train to Trauma Town.

21. What was the FIRST state you lived in?

Arizona. It's also the only state I've lived in. In Canay-dia, we have provinces.

22. If you had three wishes, what would the FIRST one be?

I'd wish for equality and the elimination of poverty. Sure, it's a compound wish, but you gotta try, right?

23. What is the FIRST thing you would learn if you had the chance?

I'd learn how to truly put myself in someone else's shoes.

Thanks for Leeandra Nolting for getting the meme party started.
When you put yourself in someone else's shoes, make sure they fit.
I'll have to try to do this too? It's sure gonna be revealing?
Please forgive me for inserting a thought from John Milton?
You are interesting. Beautifully reserved? That's a compliment.
`
John Milton.~ On Blindness
When I consider how my light is spent
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide,
And that one talent which is death to hide,
Lodged within me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve humanity (creation), and present
My true account, lest be returned chide;
Does God exact day-labor, light denied,
I fondly ask, but patience to prevent
That murmur, soon replies,`God does not need
Either woman/man work or his/her own gifts; who best
Bears their mild yoke, they serve humanity (creation) best
A state
Is kingly:`
(divinities:`)
Thousands at the bidding speed, and post over land and ocean
Without rest;
They also serve
(apology to Milton)
I love these revealing post.
Put ourself in others moccasins.
beware of the venomous snakes.
cotton mouths and copper heads.
sometimes walk with Ya bare feet.
Then, Ya get a glass of merlot wine?
Never sip a can of Colt- 45 malt beer!
Who stand and wait'.
This was wonderful. And no, I have not seen your childhood. I'm still searching for mine. Or maybe not.
Mr. Mustard: Good point. But it's an exercise in empathy to slip them on, even just for a minute, no?

Arthur James: You are too kind. I'd love to read about your firsts.

Cartouche: Thank you for your words. In retrospect, I'm not sure how hard i'll look.
