I'm New York born and raised now living in exile in the greater Charlotte NC area. I'd like to write for Salon someday, but I'll settle for posting blogs here instead. Currently, I'm making yet another attempt at writing a novel-length manuscript. This time, I'll finish it...I swear!

Freedom (of Speech) Isn't Free

In case you haven't heard:

Supreme Court Rolls Back Campaign Finance Restrictions

Once we cut through the bluster and rhetoric of the 5 activist (yes, activist) Supreme Court judges who turned back nearly 100 years of law imposing restrictions upon the financial capable (read: corporations and high-profile interest groups), we can safely see through what Justices Kennedy, Roberts, Scalia, Thomas and Alito so nakedly and crassly asserted:

Those who are most entitled to freedom of speech are those who can most afford to pay for that right.

In other words, the Supreme Court just put a price tag on the First Amendment.

Reminds me of that song from Team America: World Police:

"Freedom isn't free/No, there's a hefty fucking fee."
