I'm a reasonably good writer with an Internet connection. I'm rather opinionated on certain topics. I live in a town whose primary function is as a rest stop at the intersection of two interstate highways. I have too many radios! All postings in this blog are Creative Commons The Fuddler. Do you believe in signs?

A few months back on NPR's hour-long interview program, Fresh Air, host Terry Gross was interviewing C. Peter Wagner, the man behind a rather interesting movement called The New Apostolic Reformation, part of a larger movement known in some circles as dominionism. Its followers are among other things convinced that the Democratic party is literally possessed by demons, and so they plan to infiltrate our federal government by whatever means they deem necessary to cast out the big-D and little-d democratic demons before Jesus comes on by for the second go-'round. Of course their views on sexuality are what you'd expect from any radical-right-wing religious sect.

Which brings me to the main point. As I was listening to Terry Gross very deftly prying apart each and every one of Reverend Wagner's arguments, I was waiting in traffic behind a black late-model Ford. On its rear bumper were two stickers. One of them featured two simple human figures holding hands, each done up in the rainbow motif of the gay rights movement on a black background, with the caption “Love is love!”. The other mimicked a series of religious-themed billboards which had appeared in the area a few years earlier. On a simple black background was “ 'Stop putting words into my mouth!' - God”.

Now, if I believed in signs...

I believe in signs! There's a car, a Lexus, in the parking lot where I work and it has a bumper sticker that says "WE did it. But HE died for it." It irked me at first but now I laugh because not long after I saw it I noticed the trunk had a big dent. I feel like putting a bumper sticker above the dent that says "An UNINSURED MOTORIST did it. And YOU can't afford to get it fixed."
Good signs! Why are religious people so afraid of free will?
Liked this view much!!
I saw one the other day that said, "Lord... Protect me from your followers." But that wasn't the best. I was in Appalachia last weekend for a wedding and the digital sign in front of the church said, "Anti-Obama prayer meeting." Yes. Really. Too bad I can't show you the picture of it on my phone. Also, thank you for the fabulous comment on my blog, mkromd. You totally made my day.
