jewish writer/former screenwriter/recovering accountant from Boston now moldering in the rain in Portland, OR. and, yes, of course i should move but I battle with Agoraphobia and have trouble even leaving my apartment. but i'm blessed to have two fabulous service dogs, Ella Fitzgerald and Cocoa Chanel. Ella alerts to panic attacks and Cocoa to seizures. They give me a life, such as it is.

For the Yellow Starlings and for Grandma but primarily for the wonder that is Michael and Melissa of Metaness!

Happy Early (Tomorrow) Anniversary and many many more to the most supportive couple that an old broad could be blessed to know!  I love you both beyond words. And I tremendously admire your long loving relationship and your phenomenally creative collaborations. Together you write and make documentaries about "ordinary" people and Michael creates moving and poignant music and fabulously fun and lovely drawings and Melissa's solo posts are exquisite. The two of you are extraordinary apart, and together you are a working masterpiece.

I will keep adding images and cartoons and other fun stuff, but I wanted to get this out there while I'm alert and functioning, well, most alert and functioning. I'm happiest and most productive when when most People are asleep. You guys understand, I know. Please note that I wrote this like a grown-up for you two, with Caps and everything!

Awww, Teddy--this is so sweet! I'm glad you realized it was their special day coming up. I probably wouldn't have known it otherwise. And the text is as good as the cartoons, IMHO. And thanks for the PM--see, I got here AND I'm commenting! ;>) Rated, of course. D

people: one of the cartoons, the "for the birds" one, isn't showing up. can anyone tell me how to fix it? it's very big. i dont' know how to make it smaller. it's so colorful. i want m&m to see it!!

thanks, roger, for coming by and being so sweet, as always. oh yes, michael and melissa have 3 IDs on here. their blog together is Metaness. the ones about their birds is called The Yellow Starlings, the one about Melissa's late grandmother is called Love Grandma. they are all very different. melissa's writing is exquisite and they are a trip together. they just posted a preview of a documentary they made on Love Grandma. i will find links for you. lvoe lvoe lvoe

OMG, Theodora!!!! A *LOT* has happened since we knocked off early (well, midnight ;-) last night!!! We are so unbelievably touched by your kindness and absolutely gorgeous post—with pictures!!! The New Yorker and BIRDS and fabulous cartoons!!! Forgive all the exclamation points, but it seems the only proper response to your sheer wondrousness :-)

oh, i'm so happy, m&m. that is all i care about is that this makes you smile or laugh. i'm upset that the second cartoon won't load for me. does it for anyone else? it's blue background and a whole lot of very colorful birds on a branch. well, maybe later on you guys can help me fix it. love love love and so very happy now.

I love the bird 'toons! What a beautiful post for wonderful people ;) The MRI of love kicked me in the gut and made me choke a bit lol! It is the cure that heals us - you know, shared pain and worry - but for healing? i know you wrote tha it was a mistake - but what a mistake! Kind of like an accidental epiphany? (like a double positive or something lol) Anyways, don't feel bad - it works great too :)

Like you, I really admire them and connect especially to the thoughts and writtings on the 'ordinary'. Poetic, inspiring, and 'quieting' - you know, for those that search for ways to be 'still' and listen. I think we can find that easiest in the beauty of the ordinary. Thank you for this post.

All of you wonderful people must think we’re ingrates for failing to express our gratitude to each one of you sooner! Our only excuse is that I (Melissa) am on a 10-hour workday schedule right now. I’m also swimming in catchup (mmmm . . . catchup) and deadlines, so our OS’ing has been severely curtailed during the week, sadly. Needless to say we are touched (and a little embarrassed) by each of your kind wishes (well, except for Tijo—I (Melissa) will be having a word with you in private later ;-)

Triple thank-you to everyone, especially Theodora!!! Now off to respond to all of the lovely comments at Love Grandma!
