- Bio
- What The Wise Guise is meant to be is a place for us to get together and discuss the things we love and are passionate about, in a hopefully entertaining way. Think of it as a virtual MacLaren’s Pub, The Max, or Monk’s Café. We each love writing. We each have a propensity to become addicted to varied corners of culture. So we figured… why not join forces?! Think Super 8, where Spielberg, Abrams, Coach Eric Taylor, and the sassiest adolescents since The Sandlot joined forces. We don’t want to create another website full of people who think they have all the answers about everything from comprehensive tax reform and college football to TV quality and Kardashian cup sizes (the latter two not always being mutually exclusive). We’re not the Huffington Post. The Wise Guise is merely a place for us to post some opinions and observations, while collecting your feedback.
The name “The Wise Guise” derives from the idea that so many bloggers feel the need to assert their self proclaimed expertise. They try to give the appearance of wisdom when, more often than not, they just use controversy to get their name out there. We have no “unnamed” sources and again, we don’t claim to be experts. We come more from the line of people who wish they were experts but have real jobs. Well, some of us have real jobs… sometimes.

The Need For Real Barbershops
From about the 7th grade (2000) until earlier this year, I had my hair cut by the same lady who “does†my mother’s hair. What follows is not a knock against her by any means. She did a great job every single time for over 10 years.

The Bachelorette: Episode Two Commentary
This is the most authentic season of The Bachelorette in history, guys! The first date was baking cookies in Emily’s “real†house, and taking the suitor to Ricky’s “real†soccer practice. (Kid doesn’t look like much of an athlete to me).  She didn’t wear a custom made pro… Read full post »
Great American Novels & the Attempt at Great Film Adaptations
What is the Great American Novel? This is one of my favorite questions to ask people to get a quick read on their personality, approach towards pop culture, literature, and feelings on America. Based on how informed/passionate/apathetic someone is, asking someone about politics doesn’t… Read full post »
Survivor: Philippines Odds & Analysis on Who Will Return
Now that we’re more than a week past the always-fun Survivor finale Sunday, crowning another deserving champion (even if the second two-thirds of the season were no where near as exciting as the Colton-fueled first third) and leaving me, your resident Survivor expert and reigning Wise G… Read full post »

Liz Riggs: The Bachelorette Premiere
The Bachelorette is back and it’s harder to make fun of than ever. Because Emily Maynard’s ex-fiance baby daddy died in a plane crash before she had the chance to tell him she was pregnant with their child, I’m going to really have to focus on the douche bag contestants… Read full post »
Netflix Streaming Suggestions: Part Nine
Chances are I’ll end up just going 10 parts to the series. I might expand into just general movies and television suggestions or I might take a break for a while and regroup and maybe do some rankings by genre. If anyone has any ideas for that or would want me/us… Read full post »

The Secret Patriotism of the First Weekend in May
A boxing match is like a cowboy movie. There’s got to be good guys and there’s got to be bad guys. And that’s what people pay for – to see the bad guys get beat. – Sonny Liston

Awkward Broments In Time
When two men come together in the bond of friendship, it is oftentimes over a common interest in one of many things: sports, alcohol, women, music, etc. It’s usually extremely casual. Maybe some hot wings, a few brews, and a game on TV. End of story. But there are a… Read full post »

Movie Review: The Redemption of General Butt Naked
Yep. The title served its purpose. Sucked you in, just as it did to me on Friday night. I love documentaries, mainly because I discover more about the human condition. Well, this film causes you think very hard about forgiveness and the limits people will allow others to be forgiven.… Read full post »
Why The NBA Playoffs Are Better Than March Madness
