- Bio
- What The Wise Guise is meant to be is a place for us to get together and discuss the things we love and are passionate about, in a hopefully entertaining way. Think of it as a virtual MacLaren’s Pub, The Max, or Monk’s Café. We each love writing. We each have a propensity to become addicted to varied corners of culture. So we figured… why not join forces?! Think Super 8, where Spielberg, Abrams, Coach Eric Taylor, and the sassiest adolescents since The Sandlot joined forces. We don’t want to create another website full of people who think they have all the answers about everything from comprehensive tax reform and college football to TV quality and Kardashian cup sizes (the latter two not always being mutually exclusive). We’re not the Huffington Post. The Wise Guise is merely a place for us to post some opinions and observations, while collecting your feedback.
The name “The Wise Guise” derives from the idea that so many bloggers feel the need to assert their self proclaimed expertise. They try to give the appearance of wisdom when, more often than not, they just use controversy to get their name out there. We have no “unnamed” sources and again, we don’t claim to be experts. We come more from the line of people who wish they were experts but have real jobs. Well, some of us have real jobs… sometimes.

Pop Culture Top 12 of 2012
If the modern-day prophets who swear by the Mayan calendar are correct, then we only have a few days remaining on this wonderful paradise of a planet called Earth. Sad I know, but you couldn’t have asked for a better year from a pop culture perspective to bring… Read full post »

Well, here we are. Early voting has wrapped up. Absentee ballots are flying in from all over the world. And this time tomorrow, we’ll be wrapping up another 18+ months Presidential election cycle. Â It has been a whirlwind of debates, negative ads, and campaigns in constant reaction mod… Read full post »

The Exceptional Ones: Because of Mary
This is by far the most personal post I’ve ever written. If I had to sit down and write this to be published on The Wise Guise, it would have never been written, for a litany of reasons. But I wrote it as my personal statement for my law school… Read full post »
Movie Review: Cloud Atlas
Before reading the film review, check out the piece I did on the novel in anticipation of the movie and just be in awe of how right I was about LITERALLY everything. I wish I had mentioned that I thought the music was going to be great but underutilized, because… Read full post »
A Message to Vol Fans on the Dooley Dilemma
Derek Dooley may very well be gone at the end of this season. To be truthful, many people didn’t even expect him to last as long as he has when he took over. However, amidst all the bickering over his fate, people need to recognize that this is not a… Read full post »
The Exceptional Ones: The Perfection of Down Syndrome
This post will be brief. What I lay out will be clear. My commentary will be minimal. Â This is because the stories and statistics within this blog post speak for themselves. Commentary from me on this post would diminish the power of the story and stats within it.

Josh Smith: Alas, Cloud Atlas Future Cloudy
We’re ecstatic about today’s guest post from best friend of The Wise Guise, Josh Smith, who previously wrote this joy of a blog post. If we had it our way, Josh would write a new post every day, but he’s a legitimate family man, so alas, no can do. However, we… Read full post »
Presidential Candidates Toast & Roast at Al Smith Dinner
Every election year, the Al Smith Dinner is held in New York.  The event is a fundraiser for Roman Catholic charities.  It is tradition that most presidential candidates give a toast at the dinner, which usually turns into more of a self-deprecating roast that also throws a few good-hearte… Read full post »

Movie Review: Seven Psychopaths
Yesterday I dropped some truth bombs in my review of

A Fight to the Bitter End: My Take on the 2nd Presidential Debate
Well, that second debate was something else. Â It looked, sounded, and felt more like watching a boxing match than a Town Hall forum, as President Obama and Governor Romney went toe-to-toe with each other more often than appealing to the undecided voters on stage with them or the millions of… Read full post »

Election 2012 Update: VP Debate, Current Polling, & What Comes Next
As most people thought and as some people (like me) hoped, Romney’s resounding first debate victory radically reshaped the 2012 election. Concert Review: Alabama Shakes – Memphis, TN – 9/28/12
I haven’t been to a legit concert at the famed New Daisy Theatre on Beale Street since I was probably in high school. My guess is that last show was Pat Green or Gavin DeGraw or somebody that my 17 year old self really dug. They loved appealing to high… Read full post »
TV Review – Last Resort
Confession: I love conspiracy, serial dramas. I watched 24 the night it premiered. Â Alias hooked me on the reboot, post-Super Bowl episode, which prompted me to go back and watch from the beginning.
