“Children are one-third of our population and all of our future” – unknown
What does one dollar mean to you?
Four quarters.
One green dollar bill.
A small pack of gum.
A piece of candy.
Or a life?
Did you know that….
A new meningitis A vaccine recently launched in sub-Saharan Africa can be manufactured and delivered for only $1 (U.S.).
Did you know that every 20 seconds a child dies somewhere in this world from a vaccine preventable death?
To put it bluntly, one child has already died since you began reading this post.
Shouldn’t more little girls around the world get a chance to hold a baby doll?
Like mine can even on a cold winter day….
Unless we do something to give more children a shot at life, there will be many children who will needlessly die. We have the way, we just need to continue to provide the means.
Don’t you think it is time that we gave these children the basic human right to live?
If we don’t, there will be one more child who never has the chance to make silly faces or reach the basic milestones that makes childhood so beautiful.
One more child who never will be able to….
Swing upside down like a flying monkey on a swing.
One more child who never will be able to….
Make silly faces when his mom is trying to take his picture.
One more child who never will be able to….
Search for special rocks along the lakeshore with his sister on a beautiful summer day.
What does a dollar mean to you? What is it worth?
A shot at more silly faces and reaching more of the whimsical, phenomenal moments of childhood and life.
This post was written in response to the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life Blogust campaign and blog carnival. The requirements of the contest include using three random prompts within the blog post (a photo, a fact and a childhood milestone). One lucky blogger will win the chance of having their post featured on Real Simple!
As some of you may know, I’ve had the honor of working with Shot@Life as a Shot@Life Champion, Advocate and Volunteer since January and am committed to bring life-saving vaccines to every child around the world. Together, we can make a difference and give every child the shot@life they deserve.
