Linc, A Serialized Novel, Part 253

Rate: 0 Flag

Previously on Linc: Linc has heard voices since he was a kid, but they’re not what they seem. He can hear other people’s thoughts, but the ability has left him friendless and homeless. A mysterious corporation, Genetitech, tracks him down and offers to train him to use his skills. He soon learns that there are others with strange power like him, and when Genetitech is raided he is forced to go onto the run with them.

"Now that we have that settled," Moira said, "how do we find a cargo ship to get on?"

"I was just thinking about that," Moises replied, "maybe we don't need to get on a cargo ship, maybe instead we take a cruise ship to Hawaii first, it would be more comfortable."

"We still have Eva to worry about," Moira said.

"But now we have that super powered disrupter in Linc's lap," Moises said, "that thing should be able to keep her under control."

"I don’t know, that doesn't sound like a good idea," Moira said, "it wouldn't really help us keep a low profile."

"I agree with Moises," Linc said. Ever since Moira had mentioned the idea of slipping onto a cargo ship he had been a little freaked out. The thought of hiding out in some cramped container or unused crew cabin for several weeks was enough to set his claustrophobia going something fierce. A cruise ship would still be cramped, but at least there would probably be a window or porthole of some kind to look out of. The window might even open so that they could let some fresh air in. "This disrupter is pretty strong, I could feel it inside of the Genetitech building when they pulled up. It should be plenty strong…" he caught himself before he said 'if', "when Moira wakes up."

"Plus, the food on a cruise ship would be so much better," Moises said, "I heard that they have big all you can eat buffets."

"Where'd you hear that from? You don't know anybody who's been on a cruise," Moira said.

"Okay, I saw it on a commercial, but that doesn't make it any less true," Moises said. Moira didn’t respond at first; Linc wasn't sure if she was considering the options or if she had enough informal authority to overrule both of them and get away with it.

"Fine, we'll get on a cruise ship, but I want you to remember that I objected when Eva blows up the heads of a couple from Florida," she said at last.

"Yeah, because that would be a loss," Moises said and turned the truck towards downtown and the cruise ship terminals.
