Nobody sent a Canon ELPH 300 HS for me to review.  I own one!  And, I love it!

For the super impatient: It's a excellent point and shoot camera, small, lightweight, and medium priced, that will "carve" cameras costing twice as much...and rival some DSLRs too!

My first digital camera: An Olympus 400 4.0 megapixels...built like a tank and expensive.  Still have it. It has a build-in viewfinder and is fairly compact.  It still takes good photos but, of course, lots of noise when enlarging photos.

The second point and shoot was a Nikon L22.  Takes good photos, sometimes, if you can get by sporadic focusing problems, and a battery door that broke way too easily.

I decided to get myself a really top-notch point and shoot.  Bottom Line: I did the research and decided, that for the money, the Canon ELPH 300 HS was the next camera I was going to get happily involved with.

I'm not a techie.  All I want to do is go out and take pictures and have them come out looking decent-like.   And, I want a camera that doesn't take a rocket scientist to operate.

And, and, and I want a camera that is reliable and easy to carry around...can fit in a pocket easily.  My Canon ELPH 300 HS provides all of that.

I use a wide angle lens the majority of the time when shooting with my DSLR.  But, I use my Canon point and shoot like twice as much.

So it was important when selecting the 300 HS that it have a respectable wide-angle focus like an equivalent 24mm wide angle.  Many P&S's stop at a 28mm wide angle...even the real expensive ones.

 This shocked me! Hate to admit it, but the Canon ELPH 300 HS rivals my DSLR  in photo quality.  Of course, the Canon P&S doesn't have all the advanced features that a DSLR does.

The ELPH has a 5x optical zoom meaning: A 5x optical zoom specifies the capability to increase image size by five.  And, it does it in increments, not all at once, which is important.

The Canon ELPH 300 HS feature exceptional low-light performance.  It produces very sharp images, yes, even in low-light conditions that aren't a bit grainy. I hate flashes and only use them for fill.

Low Light - No Flash The camera uses a Canon lithium-ion rechargeable battery with an expected life of up to 220 images.  Although, that amount would be a real push for those who go berserk and think they have to review, edit every single picture that they take, in camera, right now.

With my DSLR I shoot in RAW.  The 300 HS doesn't shoot in RAW, but you can download a hack called CHDK that enables you to shoot RAW if you really want it.
