Salon Kitchen Challenge: Our first winner!

Rate: 8 Flag

Today, after a fierce and lengthy deliberation, we're excited to announce the winner of our first-ever Salon Kitchen Challenge, in which we asked our resident foodies to come up with their most imaginative creation using Thanksgiving leftovers.

And the inaugural champion is ... Open Salon's renaissance-Quebecois blogger Juliet Waters -- whose Anglo-Indian mulligatawny really made our mouths water! You can check out her winning post on Salon, here.

Francis Lam has a roundup of other fantastic entries (you can check out all of the submissions here) along with this week's challenge, which I've reprinted below:

"Inspired by Lauren Garfinkel's "Feast for Bush" project, this week's challenge is for you to create a dish, buffet or menu commemorating (or condemning) a political event from your lifetime. All entries must be edible, so no smearing yourself in ketchup. Besides, Paul McCarthy's got that one covered.

Be sure to tag your post: SKC political feast"

But frying a rat in honor of G.Gordon Liddy wouldn't be out of order would it?
Congrats Juliet!

Hmmmmmmm ... that sounds very weird ... I think I'll play
Thanks so much for the recognition. Though this next week is going to be a lot of work. Honest to god, I first heard the news about 9/11 from the cashier at Capitol, the best Italian food specialty store in Montreal. Sigh. Condemning terrorism with $60 truffle oil. I guess somebody's got to do it.
I am definitely kitchen challenged so I think I will sit this one out. Though I keep seeing flashes of George Bush Sr. barfing into Kiichi Miyazawa's lap and thinking something with Luck's White Northern Beans should be in order....
I've learned my lesson. *hangs head in shame* No joke turkey cocktails or attempts at humor at the end of a serious entry. And never go up against a Canadian at Thanksgiving. Congratulations to Juliet, well deserved.
Congrats Juliet - great post. I think this foodie challenge is a great way to highlight some of the amazing writers at OS who also happen to be pretty handy in the kitchen. Thanks, Roger.
Congrats, Juliet!

I was tapped out on Thanksgiving, but the political game - hmm...

I could get into that.
(The Date Ball post does NOT count! Nor does 1_Mom's weiner!)
you guys really don't know how to be inclusive, do you?

it is a great post juliet.
Congrats, Juliet! All the winners in Francis' writeup were pretty fantastic.
Congratulations, Juliet!!! Way to go!
Sound mouth watering to me. But then again, I'm on a diet.
The Irish part of me (which is, let's face it, most of me) is proud of Juliet. The Canadian part of me is embarrassed at that feeling of pride, and apologises to Julie, and to the rest of you. The two sides will now go make a cup of tea and have a lie-down to recover from all the excitement.
