Tribute to Maat: Dedicated to WalkAwayHappy

Rate: 5 Flag

They say that the supreme god Ra came forth from Maat, the goddess of justice and truth, and since then Ra exists and lives in Maat. Without Maat, there is no god—a loving woman is a man’s home.

Maat said,

The Lord possessed me even then
Before his works of old
He set me forth way back when
The brightest ray of gold

Before the fountains of the deep
Before the mountains sat I stood
Heaven He made for me to sleep
I said O God, I wish I could

The Egyptians did it right, didn't they? This is awesome, Thoth. A very fitting moniker, I think!

Pawed!
You captured my heart. Lovely poem and great gift to those of us who carry our men in our hearts. Another rated, Thoth.
Thank you LadyMiko,

The ancient Egyptians were the most civilized people ever lived. Their literature is a compelling proof.
Thank you, Rainee174,

The question is this. Is the man worth having. Even Ra was lucky to have Maat.
Thoth: I spent ten years studying their culture, just amazing!
I love Ma'at...when I teach world history, we talk a great deal about Egyptian theology. Ma'at wears a white feather in her headdress (a clue if you ever want to identify Egyptian goddesses). This feather is placed on one side of the scales in the underworld. The heart of the deceased is placed in the other. One's heart should equal the weight of the feather to enter the afterlife.

A gold scarab was placed within the heart and the prayer to be recited began: "My heart, my mother, my heart, my mother, my heart of my existence on earth..."

Egyptians wrote gorgeous poetry didn't they? Thanks for this...and I am sure with an avatar like "Thoth"...you already knew all this...thanks for your indulgence.
Yekdeli,

I am always elated to meet a fellow "Egyptologist." I studied Ancient Egyption literature, poetry and "theology," pyramid, coffin texts and the wonderful BD, you name it, for a long time. I am still fascinated by how intelligent, insightful, humane and spiritual they were.

Thank you for your nice comment.
LadyMiko,

I know you did, you are Mauet herself.

I will definitely need a response to that.
WalkAwayHappy,

Anytime. How does it feel to be a goddess? Superior? Good.
Thoth: I'm too humble for such things, :)
Well, Thoth, I can't think of a better Superior Goddess to dedicate this beautiful work to. (Did I just end that sentence with a preposition? Ack.) Did you actually write this? Lovely poetry. And for a lovely gal. You're a good friend. :)
Outside Myself,

Thank you as always. Yes, this is definitely my poem. It was inspired by WalkAwayHappy's poem.
What a beautiful vision. I especially love the line "before the mountains sat I stood", that one is really powerful to me.
Thank you mamoore,
Good ear.
