Over a Year on OS: Happy Holidays

Rate: 58 Flag

“We are here on earth to groom ourselves to the best picture possible before our maker, whether it’s God or Nature.”

Thoth

Over a year on OS, I learned much about life and people. I express my gratitude to OS for giving me the chance to share my thoughts, and to the members who taught me much—all good writers with relevant issues.

First, I will start with those who beat me to the punch almost everywhere I went to comment: O’Really, the sharp witty professor of life; Michael Rodgers, the naturally funny man with unmatched common sense; Andy Heizeler, a rebel with a big cause; Owl_Says_Who, the one of humor and wisdom; john Blumenthal, the matter-of-fact, kind-hearted, hilarious Hollywood dude.

Then there those who supported me when I started and thereafter: LadyMiko, whose erotic poetry never fails to put a smile on my face, literally; WalkAwayHappy, the hopelessly romantic poet and most passionate; Outside Myself, who wrote about love and found love; The Wanderer, the wonderful family man who taught me much about family values; gracielou, the endearingly kind and pleasantly wise; Just Cathy, or Wonderwoman, who has the luckiest family and who beat me on two counts, wisdom and cooking; Mungular, the solid veteran; Buffy W, the sentimental soul who paints poetry; Kate Bishop, the great intellectual political writer who fights for truth; and Kind of Blue, the kind and the passionate. I will always be grateful to the support and kindness of the deep and truthful cartouche.

Then, more of the fine pens on OS: Chuck A. Stetson, the deep and fine poet, whom I find expensive to read (to really enjoy Chuck’s writing you need more than coffee); Scanner, the man who tells it like it is with courage, dignity, and awareness; Caroline Hagwood, the brilliant poet.

Then we have the intelligent critics with sharp pens: noah tall; Traveller1; Delia Black; Shannon Moon; MrsRaptor; Madcelt; Donna Carbone; Skeletnwmn; Julie Tarp, who will make you smile anytime; Robin Sneed, the secretly sentimental; Natalie Not Pedantic who ended a theological dilemma I had for years by writing one line: “…it doesn’t say they’re going to hell.” Then we have Paul J. O’Rourke and Steven Belvins, the passionate intellectuals; Roger Fallihee and Placebostudman, whom I recently had the pleasure of reading.

Yet more pens keep teaching me life, love and poetry: Leonde Delmare; rita shibr; Gwedolyn Glover; mypsyche; Lunchlady 2; Nikki Stern; sradi; Ardee; Karin Greenberg; hourglass figure; MiddleAgeWomanBlogging; fireeyes24; KyleD, whom I love even though she disagrees with me politically.

Then there are those who should post more often: markinjapan, the worldly intellectual; emma peel; Kerry Lauerman; we all miss his posts and pics; Zashin, the sensuous; Susanlivingkinky, the teacher; alexis james, the dark poet; Rutilus Extraho, the one who shares.

Then there are the new and not so new talents: Joan Wilder, the beautiful writer who doesn’t have time for us; FusunA, who redefines class and beauty with her fine taste; Jesse Mitchell, the fine writer who is looking for excellence; Jack Heart, a great new talent and a fine researcher; Dear reader I married him, another talented fine researcher; Lacey Driggars, a passionate writer; cinamingrl, a fine recent addition to OS; and last but not least, InZain the greatest video gamer on OS.

As I write this on the fly, I ask you to forgive me if I did not mention your name this year. To all the fine writers on OS, I would like to leave you with this:

Why do most people tell the truth on their death bed? Why do some old politicians risk getting fired by finally exposing corruption? Why do all people want to be remembered? Why do most people want to be remembered as good? It is a human universal, same as beauty, justice, pair-bonds (marriage), honesty, and dishonesty. History is in our genes; we make history.

"Whether you believe in God or not; whether you believe in Judgment or not; wherever your Hall of Judgment is, never get caught dead and… wrong."

Happy Holidays Everyone.

What a great post for the holidays Thoth. I love your description of me as "...a sentimental soul who paints poetry"...I'm going to use that line, thank you.

I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

R
KyleD,

You know we all love you, no matter what: Republicans are the best, how is that?
Thank you so much, and have a very Happy Holiday.
Buffy W,

That's what you do. Happy Holidays, my friend.
Thank you for the mention, Thoth. The wonderful thing about OS is that, whether we agree with each other or not, we continue to keep an open mind and learn, learn, learn. Finding your blog has opened a whole new area of consideration for me for which I am grateful. May the holidays bring you an abundance of love and laughter that carries long into the New Year.
R
I usually DO agree with you, my friend and this was a great post. An end of the year tribute to all those who contribute so much to making OS almost an addiction. You are of course, not mentioned in your own post, but I will add your name as one of the most thoughtful and inquisitive bloggers in the game. A Happy New Year to you my friend, Thoth.
Oh, Thoth...me sentimental? Yes! You caught me...how touching...and I can see from this post...I'm not the only one...Merry Merry, my friend...xox
You're a very gracious presence yourself here, Thoth, generous in your responses and supportive of other writers, which is noticed and appreciated. Happy holidays.
More than a year, huh? Congratulations on sticking around, it's nice to have you among the crowd here.
Thoth…allow me to extend my sincere wishes to you and yours to have Happy Holiday’s also. May 2010 be filled with contentment and accomplishments.
Thoth, thank you for mentioning my name. As I said yesterday, you are a gentleman in your posts and your comments. This site that is OS is a collection of idea and stories. Some better than others, but everyone has something to day, and OS provides a forum for that. There will always be disagreements, just as in any community, but it's how you handle the bad times that make the good times that much better. Congratulations on one year at OS. It does seem to fly by quickly!

In my brief time here, you've demonstrated to be a gentleman of principles, and it is I who considers herself lucky to have enriched her world through your writing and ideas. I wish you all the best in at the dawn of a new decade. (Seshat)
Rated, of course !
~Grins~

Most of the time I mostly agree with you... Where I disagree though I'm not shy about disagreeing. I do, however try to be polite with my disagreement *and* try to explain why I disagree.
Awww, Thoth, you have touched me once again. Thank you for mentioning me. I always love seeing your comments on my posts. You are a talented, thoughtful writer who is a huge presence here on OS. I wish you a very happy holiday!!
Thoth, after years of trying to find somewhere I belong, a neighborhood of like-minded thinkers, I find it here on OS. You are the best neighbor, kind and generous and fierce. Have a loving holiday and don't you dare move away!
Very nice post and I'm that that the OS community has been so rewarding for you. It has for me too. I love it here! Happy Holidays to you too!
Thoth, how sweet and thothy (errr frothy, bad I know), Thank you for the appreciation, it means so much to me. I have laughed with you, and felt inspired by your posts also. Merry Christmas, to you and yours.
Happy Anniversary and Happy Holidays, Thoth. Keep up the good work!
Happy Holidays Thoth and thank you for including me in this wonderful group of people. You were one of the first to read my posts and comment which ultimately lead me to you. You encourage us to think outsides of ourselves, to consider another option, you don't beg our agreement just our consideration of a different viewpoint. You are always generous with your thoughts and comments, something I can always count on. I look forward to the coming year and many more posts from my friend Thoth. Cheers

What a lovely summing up of the year. I thank you for your kind words.
I'm new to OS but I look forward to more good reads from you over the upcoming year.
Have a great Christmas and New Year!
Glad to have you here and read your Thothy thoughts.

(As defender of the weak, you should boost MY posts, too...sniffle...)
This was true to the holiday spirit and true to your greatness in remembering others, T.
It will be my extreme pleasure and challenge in 2010, to add to the number of counts on which I will attempt to beat you...afterall, you have proclaimed me as "Wonderwoman" and must live up to your expectations! It's gonna be a great ride and a fabulous new year! We all deserve it! Thanks, Thoth, for the big smiles this morning!
Me teaching you about life, love and poetry? Thank you! It has been great to get to know you here on OS. Keep up the great writing.
HUGS
Thoth, "the passionate paradigm shaker"! :)

What an incredible list...and so many more out there, it is amazing what comes up when you are doing something like this on the fly, isn't it? My favorite line, "History is in our genes; we make history."

This place is a true gift. Thank you for the appreciation. I would like to take this moment to do the same, to appreciate the love, light, and truth within you. Namaste.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!! MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR WHOLE FAMILY!!! MAY 2010 BE PROSPEROUS AND HEALTHY FOR YOU AND MAY ALL OF YOUR PRAYERS BE ANSWERED!!
Thoth-

Thank you sincerely for the mention. I really need to do more reading and less writing, and check out some more of those wonderful people you've listed!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (or however that's spelled) Happy Kwanzaa, Merry Festivus, and every other winter holiday that everyone celebrates this time of year (Im sure there are many I didn't mention)

Oh, and I LOVE to argue, so BRING IT ON....hehehehe
Happy Holidays to you too!!! And to a wonderful New Year! Thanks for being who you are, a sweetheart!
Aw, thanks Thoth! There's some names on here that i don't recognize, so i look forward to checking them out. Keep your posts coming!

Happy Holidays!
I swear I know how to capitalize an "I"! See. look! I just did it a bunch of times.
You show great heart and great taste in the writers you mention . . . to be included is an honor! And Thoth - though I don't get over here as often as I'd like, I'm impressed with the way you frame an argument, the way you ask a question. Glad you're here, my friend!
And here's to you Thoth, who encourages me. Gracias, Merci and thank you. xx
I must say, Thoth, you have wonderful taste in writing. I agree with all your choices, especially the fifth one. But kind-hearted? You're kidding right?
Have a great holiday!
This was beautiful. And you nailed my existence here on OS perfectly. Absolutely perfectly. Thanks so much. And thank YOU for being a voice of remarkable intelligence and "thoth."
Dear Thoth, thanks for a lovely and generous posting. Your writing is distinct and crystalline much of the time. And I always appreciate your comments when I post. My best to you!
Man this is good, good and fun. It is tight and well written and I don't know, man, I just like it. It is cool. I also see my name up there, so hot damn!
Good job, brother

P.S. "Whether you believe in God or not; whether you believe in Judgment or not; wherever your Hall of Judgment is, never get caught dead and… wrong." that is awesome, I love that.
Thanks for the mention. I didn't know that I was passionate.
Merry Christmas Thoth. I just realized that Thoth is sauce pronounced by someone who lisps
This is such a sweet tribute to the wonderful talent on here. Thank you for counting me among them. Glad for the opportunity to meet you and become familiar with your thoughts and work on this forum. All the best to you this holiday season.
What an odd feeling it is to see one's name in another post. But to be grouped with these others; that's just bliss.

Thanks, dear

Moving on......this time for real! :)
Aw, what a wonderful post, Thoth. OS is great isn't it? :)

Pawed.
Happy holidays to you too, Thoth. Don't forget to include yourself in that list!
You mention lots of names I recognize and many that are possibly newer since my hiatus. This is a lovely and thoughtful gift, Thoth. You have always been a progressive thinker and I have missed your posts. Happy holidays to you, my friend. xoxo
Thoth, thank you for including me here. Although I was a relative latecomer to your posts, I've enjoyed them immensely and look forward to many more.

Happy Holidays!
The "Professor" has been away all day dealing with other students who are not nearly as bright or astute as you! Thank you so much for putting on me a list of highly esteemed writers whose work I respect and enjoy. Okay, you may have been short a pill or two in your characterization of blumenthal, but somebody has to throw him a bone once in awhile. Happy holidays to you! Keep on fighting the noble fight. You are a good man. I know these things.
Thanks for the mention, Thoth. I'll try to live up to it.

Happy Holidays back atcha.
Frank Apisa,

Thank you. I wish the same for you and yours.
I read this earlier today and rated...been doing the family holiday thing so sorry for the delay on comment and thanks for mentioning me among so many fabulous creative people that I admire.
Harvey Gardner,

Thank you for your visit. Very Happy Christmas to you too.
cartouche,

Just always remember that YOU left me. Yet my love is eternal, so welcome back. Thank you, coming from you, I flattered; hurt, but flattered.
emma peel,

No, you should be me on the list. right?
Happy holidays to you too.
Happy OS Anniversary Thoth. Looking forward to reading more of you in 2010. Have a merry merry whatever you have. It warmed my heart to the see the gracious exchange between Frank and you here...peace on earth, good will to men and all that stuff.
Happy OS anniversary, man. Happy holidays to you and yours. I look forward to the coming year and your wonderful posts.
Dang, now I have to seek out all of these people that I have not "met" here and read their blogs because you have peeked my interest (what a lovely thought, by the way). . .you know, after the holidays, when things are less crazy. If I survive. If the screaming from my children does not pierce my brain so much that it turns to mush (obviously the screaming will commence when they see the 10 different flashlights (head light, book light, nightlight etc.) digital cameras (cuz every 9 year old needs her own!) and the life size Edward Cullen poster (because why not cut down a tree and make a throw away copy of an actor). So after the screaming subsides and the chaos lessens (or is the calm really the chaos as Lestat says?), I may enter OS again without delay. Thanks for thinking of me. . .Happy Holidays!
Wonderfully, heartfelt piece Thoth. I am better off having met you on here. You're definitely one of the many really thought provoking writers and avid readers. It's people like you that are the backbone of Open Salon. Happy Holidays my friend...

Big Bro Hugs
Greg
"never get caught dead and… wrong." Ya got that right!! It amazes me how many have been here for a year that have only fairly recently appeared on my radar. (I need to get out more) I do know many on your list and agree wholeheartedly. My own OS anniversary passed because I couldn't remember when it was.
Glad you're here, Thoth! You definitely make this a better place. Keep up the great writing and have the best the Holiday's have to offer!
Philos777,

Thank you and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
@Donna Carbone,

Thank you so much, it my pleasure. Happy Holidays.

@Madcelt,

Back at you, my generous friend.

@Robin Sneed,

O yeah, and romantic too, I know what's going on.

@FusunA,

Thank you classy lady.

@MrsRaptor,

Where would I be if you don't disagree. Thank you.

@Karin Greenberg,

Too kind as always, thank you.

@Ardee,

I believe you are fierce too, just in case I might need help. Thank you.

@rita Shibr,

Can call myself God Blue. Your last post is a hit. Thank you.

@Steve Belvins,

Thank you so much. It is a pleasure to have met you.

@Roger Fallihee,

Thank you, the pleasure is mine.
scanner,

Thank you my good man, it is my pleasure having you as a friend.
john blumenthal,

I had you first on the list, but O'Really had a gun to my head. I decided I want to live. Thanks my friend, its been a pleasure reading you.
Kind of Blue,

Thank you so much for the strong support you've given me in the past. I always miss your visits.
New Buddha Fun,

God, I can't believe you remember that one (Differences Between Male and Female Infidelity). No man or woman in America has ever dared to portray how a betrayed man feels before that. What I underestimated is how many will take it personally. Yet sometimes, you gotta tell it like it is. The moral here is that a good writer must be able to write well and in an original fashion about many different topics. This is when the reader appreciates your talent.

Thank you for your reminder and support. Keep up the good work.
Michael Rodgers,

Greats like you encourage writers to excel. Writing is never fun unless the writer knows that there are fine critics appreciate talent and originality. Mostly, I thank you for these outstanding standalone comments you bestow on my blog. Thank you, Michael and back at you, my friend.
Owl_Says_Who,

The honor is all mine. I read every post and every comment you've written; it was always my pleasure. Those like you make OS a worthy place. Thank you so much for being here.
Drat! Hard to imagine O'Really with a gun and not shooting herself by accident. Only her words are more inept.
I have time for you all, Thoth! Been sick and offline! Have a file of to reads for after the holidays to soak up and enjoy. Thanks for the mention and love your writing, as usual. Happy Everything!
Joan Wilder,

I am sorry you're under the weather. We are looking forward to your new post; you are a fine writer. Get well, and Merry Christmas.
A lovely post. Happy New Year to all!
The Dewy Red,

Happy New Year to you too. It is always good to hear from you.
@ Everyone who's read my comments on their blogs.
@ Everyone on OS.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.
A lovely new reading/discovery list of OS posters (for someone who is admittedly a babe in woods herself).

Thanks!
Lisbeth Cheever Gessaman,

Thank you. I believe you are a fine poet and I am looking forward to your best work in 2010.
Thoth,

nanatehay,

Thank you so much for being on OS, for being here, and for your gracious comment. Happy New Year to you, my friend.
Thanks for including me in the post Thoth; I'm in some great company up there. And thank God December's behind us. Now that the holidays are over, I feel like life can begin again. I'm half-inclined to go out and get some virtual cocaine and Dom Perignon and hookers. All paid for with my virtual money of course; I made millions on virtual securitized mortgages before the bubble burst:P
Hey nana,

Virtual or real, they won't find a better company. Thanks man.
Eric Lightborn,

You are a fine addition to OS; I am glad I found your blog. Thank you for your gracious visit and kind comment.
Thank you! :) Sorry this comment is so freakin' late.
