A Passion Play for my friend Monte Canfield
Act 1 As Jesus ascends:
Crowd: Lord! You're going back to heaven and we have so much to learn. Tell us what is the main thing we need to know?
Jesus: Children, just love god with all your heart and love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Crowd: Wait lord what about whores and homos and unbelievers and all of that?
Jesus: Love God-Love your neighbors.
Crowd: But lord it can't be that simple. Shouldn't we scourge the earth of the infedels?
Jesus: Love god comepletely and give your neighbor the same benefit of the doubt that you give yourself.
Crowd: You can't mean we have to love EVERYONE!
Jesus: Love god totaly and love yourself and your neighbors equally.
Crowd: Okay okay we'll try but what if they hurt us?
Jesus: Give them the same forgiveness you would offer yourself.
Crowd:But lord we have been forgiven by you.
Jesus: Yes you have.
Crowd:We are holy.
Jesus: Yes you have been sanctified
Crowd:Lord how can we forgive the undeserving, unholy pagan?
Jesus: Just as I have forgiven you.
Jesus ascends. Lights dim to black leaving one spot trained on the ground where he had stood. Crowd looks across the pool of light at each other and decides.

He's still around....more quiet, but still as ever graceful...
wouldn't it be great if more of those who call themselves Christians had even a nodding acquaintance with their master's teachings?
As an atheist I am probably not the best apologist for christianity but as a human I can say it always easier for all of us when we act out of our highest ideals. I wish I had a better track record myself and as I said in a previous post my acquaintance with grace is first and foremost that of being on the receiving end but I try.
Thanks for stopping by.
It makes me a little sad too. This is a young site and we are all just learning how to treat each other. Monte's example will be missed. Gary is a good guy to follow, great writing, no drama. Have you followed his writing?
