Lord! Lord! A Brief Passion Play

Rate: 8 Flag

A Passion Play  for  my friend Monte Canfield

Act 1 As Jesus ascends:

Crowd: Lord! You're going back to heaven and we have so much to learn. Tell us what is the main thing we need to know?

Jesus: Children, just love god with all your heart and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Crowd: Wait lord what  about whores and homos and unbelievers and all of that?

 Jesus: Love God-Love your neighbors.

Crowd: But lord it can't be that simple. Shouldn't we scourge the earth of the infedels?

Jesus: Love god comepletely and give your neighbor the same benefit of the doubt that you give yourself.

Crowd: You can't mean we have to love EVERYONE!

Jesus: Love god totaly and love yourself and your neighbors equally.

Crowd: Okay okay we'll try but what if they hurt us?

Jesus: Give them the same forgiveness you would offer yourself.

Crowd:But lord we have been forgiven by you.

 Jesus: Yes you have.

Crowd:We are holy.

Jesus: Yes you have been sanctified

Crowd:Lord how can we forgive the undeserving, unholy pagan?

Jesus: Just as I have forgiven you.

Jesus ascends.  Lights dim to black leaving one spot  trained on the ground where he had stood. Crowd looks across the pool of light at each other and decides.

Yes....I miss him as you and many others do....
He's still around....more quiet, but still as ever graceful...
fitting that you dedicate this to Monty, one of the guys who give Christianity a good name

wouldn't it be great if more of those who call themselves Christians had even a nodding acquaintance with their master's teachings?
Gary- no clue what happened this weekend. I don't think I really care. I can be accused of having animosity for those whom I feel have bad intent (you've all heard me rant against homophobes) but the Monte I know has always been kind and understanding. I know that he's flawed just like the rest of us but I think his heart is golden and I look forward to his quick return.
I'm afraid I missed whatever it was that drove Monte away. I'm sorry I did. Maybe he could have used another voice.
Thanks Roy and Noah. I don't know what happened either. I checked out Mr Mustards post and was able to figure out that something happened (as much from the comments as the post). It doesn't really matter and I don't want to belabor anything that might be more painful. I'm hoping that we can all figure out how to end this cycle of bitterness and hurt feelings. I'm not saying someone is right and someone is wrong or that anyone is innocent. I just hope we can all find it within us to act out the ideals we so often espouse here. And especially that you all can forgive me when I screw up which is likely to happen often.
The Christian message in two words: Love Everyone. Good job, Tijo.
Thanks Steve,
As an atheist I am probably not the best apologist for christianity but as a human I can say it always easier for all of us when we act out of our highest ideals. I wish I had a better track record myself and as I said in a previous post my acquaintance with grace is first and foremost that of being on the receiving end but I try.
Thanks for stopping by.
Tijo - I like the way you roll. Well done.
Also, I love your new look. Meant to tell you that earlier.
Owl thanks, It came out of an exercise to dress up the basic OS av. It looks nothing like my physical self but captures the inner me a bit. A bit askew, friendly but sometimes inscrutable, and always look best in blue*)
The new avatar makes me smile. I imagine the hair swivelling side to side like a hat, sort of South Park-ish. This piece also makes me smile, but sadly - the message is beautiful.
Sometimes it spins.

It makes me a little sad too. This is a young site and we are all just learning how to treat each other. Monte's example will be missed. Gary is a good guy to follow, great writing, no drama. Have you followed his writing?
Yep. I like Gary's stuff - very original mind, and often profound. I'm hoping Monte will be back.
wow, this is stunning, tijo. i'm impressed. i've mostly seen your goofy side on here. monte is an extraordinary person but he has his human flaws too, of course. this is lovely gift for Monte. just lovely. love love love and now go read my post. :)
Love the love that is Love, and include all. It's so simple really.
