The Last Kennedy - In Memoriam Edward Kennedy

Rate: 16 Flag

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."

Edward-Kennedy-Democrat

Many thought he was outshone by his brothers, that their light shined brighter. But his shone longer, became a beacon and a guide, a light to work by late into the night. His was a liberal light, generous and kind, lighting the way for rich and poor alike shining where others did not deign theirs to be worthy. It will require many of us to take up our own lights to brighten the darkness you have left behind.

Thank you Senator.

Family Statement: “Edward M. Kennedy—the husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle we loved so deeply—died late Tuesday night at home in Hyannis Port. We’ve lost the irreplaceable center of our family and joyous light in our lives, but the inspiration of his faith, optimism, and perseverance will live on in our hearts forever. We thank everyone who gave him care and support over this last year, and everyone who stood with him for so many years in his tireless march for progress toward justice, fairness and opportunity for all. He loved this country and devoted his life to serving it. He always believed that our best days were still ahead, but it’s hard to imagine any of them without him.”

Damn... I heard it here first. Thanks T
Thank you, Tijo, for sharing the family announcement, and your own sentiments as well. he was a man who cast a giant shadow.
Good going T, an amazing man!!
Thank you, T. This is a beautiful tribute to a great man...xox
Known as The Loin of the Senate, because of his work for the poor & elderly. Despite his wealthy upbringing, Senator Kennedy devoted his time in the Senate to help pass legislation to better the live of all those groups of American citizen, who had no voice, but were the citizens needing the help of the American Government more than any other. He worked for healthcare, he worked for better wages, he worked for education and he worked for women’s rights…. a man of the people, for the people and with the people.

The last of an era… he will be missed at a time we need him most, so let his passing be remembered by universal healthcare for all Americans.

He is not the last of the Kennedy children. Jean Kennedy Smith(b. 1928) is still alive.)

His speech at Bobby's funeral was one of his best.
Tijo it's a sad day and sadly half the people won't care. It's the end of American Royalty and decades of service with the good of America always in mind. Kennedy was one of the REAL bipartisan workers in the Senate. He talked the talk and walked the walk. If not for one fateful night, he would have been President.
R.I.P. Senator Kennedy
This is one that's hard to take - he made plenty of mistakes in his life but the work he did on behalf of those who had no voice outweighs them all. I hope his death re-energizes those who continue the battles in his name.
A wonderful post Tijo, for a man so well admired by many. A deeply flawed, yet deeply compassionate soul, understanding the responsibility of privilege.
Damn. Another one gone. I feel like . . . "let us pray." Like a hush needs to fall. Thanks, Tijo.
thanks, Ti Ti. shit, this is terrible news. i'm glad it came from you. he was a hero, he is a hero, for so many many many reasons. love love lvoe and gratitude and if you need a lift, please come read about my va jay jay on my Taking a Break post. i love you, dude.
So sad. I still cry hearing the speech he delivered at his brother Bobby's funeral. Whatever his too-human flaws, he gave the American people his best shot -- he tried & did make a difference.
It's raining here---pretty much everywhere.
"But his shone longer"
Peace and rest to the departed soul.
Indeed, the dream shall endure.
Even his enemies spoke respectfully of him. I think that must be a significant tribute, esp in this knife-under-the-ribcage era...
