An article today in Der Speigel says that Terry Jones "appears to have a delusional personality" and was kicked out of his church in Germany. This man is dangerous, but clearly the Germans, who understand what one dangerous man can do, decided to limit their loses. Should we?
I am posting this for one reason - tomorrow I'd like to see how much coverage this piece got from the MSM. If this is covered as it should be, every one near this guy should be taking several steps back. If not, then for my money the MSM will have just as much blood on their hands for what this heinous act will cause in terms of recruiting and actions by Al Queda and their ilk.
And if nothing is reported then my suggestion is this:
1) Write and call your local news outlets. Ask them to cover both the Der Spiegel piece and my following suggestion.
2) Buy a Koran. On Sept 11. And make sure it is a public act.
I will do this, and I am a fairly non-religious man. But it will be a statement not of support for Islam, but for religious diversity and tolerance in the United States.

UPDATE: The Town of Gainseville, FL has denied a permit to do the planned outdoor burn (the link is the mayor's letter). The reverend has said he will go ahead anyway. Lets hope the town sends out their firetrucks and police for this one!

UPDATE II: September 10, 2010 - Very little MSM awareness. Olbermann & David Sirota spoke about the German church connection, but I didnt hear anyone else. Nothing in yesterday's Denver Post, our local rag. Time to write letters that will be ignored!

And why cant the city just say no as a zoning issue?
Oh and by the way, interesting history. I have no knowledge of this so you just added some stuff to my crowded reading list!
Burn a Koran, Buy a Koran.
The logic here I think escapes this hillbilly Idiot.
If you in the U S want to burn a Koran.
Wouldn't you 1st have to Buy a Koran? If you don't Buy it wouldn't you have to steal it? This being a crime even in the U S.
So If you buy one a Koran, Aren't you supporting the cause you wish to denigrate by burning a Koran? Certainly one would assume the proceeds from buying a Koran would go to a Muslim organization. Otherwise one would have to go to a place that sells Korans. Barns a Nobel sells Korans I am pretty sure. I am sure there are Book stores that specialize in Muslim literature.
Anyway one would have to buy or go someplace that sell them and either steal it or throw flammable liquid on a pile of Korans inside the store and set it on fire. Thereby committing the crime of arson which is worse than theft, among other crimes I am sure.
Am I being too analytical?
Americans seem to cherish their hate so much that they do not even mind when it is artificially induced. Those of you who still think Moslems blew up those towers need to turn off your TV sets immediately and take yourself here: http://www.esoterictube.com/911-blueprint-for-truth-the-architecture-of-destruction.html spend 2 hours and listen to what the man has to say. He is a practicing Architect and you and the stooges that the government enlisted to deceive you are not in fact most of them are card carrying spooks. This is not a fringe movement as the Washington Post (and if it is the truth we will be obligated as good Americans to hang the editorial staff of the Washington Post in the middle of the street along with the executives of just about every media outlet in this country what do you think they are going to say hang me) calls it read what the Times said we are talking about 1200 of the most renowned architects and engineers in the world according to the polls at least half of you know they are lying, 1/5 know the truth already, the ones who examined the evidence. People are dyeing, our once great country is now broke if you must hate and lord only knows I understand that at least hate the right people
this guy scares me. fanatics scare me.
1) I am indicting the MSM IF (and I mean IF) they do not report on the magnitude of this mans sociopathy.
2) I suggest buying a Koran specifically as a way to show support fof the American ideal of religious tolerance, not because I want to see the Koran itself make it to the NYTimes best seller list.
Tom - I feel for you. Do you ever feel like you stick out like a sore thumb?
JAck - in this great country of ours you have the Constitutionally guaranteed right to be an idiot. So if there are 30 or so idiots around this sociopathic publicity hound, well, then they may find themselves in a statistic, like Jonestown or the followers of David Koresh.
Poppi - The issue here, and this is where I really meant to start- is that our media gives sick people like this cover, especially if they look like a slow motion train wreck. So, can we get the media to at least cover when this guys started down the mountain without brakes?

Doug - See Non's response.
I was being facetious, in my comment. trying to bring a little levity to the subject. People like Jones never think out the details.
The same way this mental giant thought that the local Imam had influence or pull to make a decision about what happens in new York.
The America I grew up in seems to just have been a figment of my imagination. the America I grew up in is better than this. We are better than the people who attacked us.
We embrace plurality tolerance and diversity. The America I grew up in doesn't stoop to their level. We are better than that.
A lot of these values I learned from my father, A conservative Republican, Whose honesty and integrity were his most important values.
