Isn't "Move to Amend" a Conservative Idea?
This is an argument between friends - the conservative says "Move to Amend" is a Progressive idea. The Liberal says it is a "Conservative" one. Yours truly is the Liberal and author.
Why would limiting the “rights” of corporations to pour unlimited and unaccountable $… Read full post »
The Irony of Peace
Life is full of little ironies, isn’t it? I see them everywhere and often they give life some real interest and depth. For instance, isn't it curious to you that the creator of dynamite, a real leap forward in man's ability to wreak havoc on his fellow man and his environment… Read full post »

Sacrifice, Part II
Some time ago I posted a musing on whether or not it was time to think about the word “sacrifice” again. In the interim, I have not only become more certain that it is, I have noted the incredible dearth of the political types being willing to address the issue.
Why wait?
“It’s laissez-faire until you get into deep shit” said John Gutfreund, the man who took Saloman Bros. public. This simple act of taking a (very special kind of) private company public back in the mid-go-go-go 80’s began a series of events that culminated in the subp/… Read full post »

An article today in Der Speigel says that Terry Jones "appears to have a delusional personality" and was kicked out of his church in Germany. This man is dangerous, but clearly the Germans, who understand what one dangerous man can do, decided to limit their loses. Should we?

Is it time to use the "S" word again?

During the break of a wildly frenetic concert last night by the Portland-based band “March Fourth” (see them at your peril. Don’t see them at your loss) my brother and I had a conversation. As usual, these conversations run to po… Read full post »
When will we get over Vietnam?
What time frame comes to mind when you hear “Vietnam?” I’d bet that in a free association experiment, most people would think of the period from the 1968 election through April 30, 1975, even though the first American death was 1945. You might see helicopters landing in… Read full post »

Caught in the act. Again. Again. and Again.
I was a newbie in the church ~ and had made a few friends of some of its more senior members. I hoped someday I might be as learned and holy, because they really seemed like good kind people to me. And for the most part, they were. But there… Read full post »
