Twas the moment she said “Hi!” to me
as I left the luncheonette
her face recalled but not her name
though she remembered mine.

I said hello
and how are you
as we both turned back inside
to share another coffee
unaware our lives had changed.

Funny how you never notice
at the moment when it happens
what later seems so clear to you
on casual reflection.

At that moment over coffee
I took notice of her lips.
Lips like hers not yet in Vogue
plump like pillows on the cup
unlike Cybil Shepherd lips.

And over coffee I decided
watching lips caress the cup
I’d love to kiss her pillow lips
and blue green eyes

obscuring drops of other colors
eyes reminding of Liz T;
Davis eyes and blushing crows
words as yet unwritten.

Thick Italian brunette hair
lush of hip and breast
a seventeen year old beauty
a red scar across her neck.

I never asked about it
though later I would learn
all the details of the mark
despoiling such perfection.

And I think because I never asked
I got the chance to win her heart
and we became inseparable
lips and bodies n’er apart
spurred on to loving passion’s heights

when e’er I kissed and worshiped
at her flaw

Beautifully captured moments.
Every time I try to rate this post it drops back to zero. Go figure.
Incidentally, the emotional freight carried by that bit of a painting (unfortunately unidentified) is truly remarkable and exceedingly appropriate to the poetry.
Rather haunting.. and very visual.

Rated for word paint.
The painting, your poetry and Jan's comments are like presents to me on a sunday morning.
You have experienced love in a way which reaches out into eternity.
Thank you.

Jan, Seer, Heidi - many thanks for reading and commenting. I wrote this piece originally about 18 months ago - if I recall the painting is a close up of a section of a Vermeer (The earring?).

Regards.
Great eyes, no wonder you forgot about the scar and great that you didn't mention it. R&R
