Bio
I am a simple man who has lived a simple life for sixty years. I have not dined with movie stars nor Kings and Queens. I have not walked the halls of power, nor have I been a mover and a shaker. I have, however, been a soldier, a tinker, a jack of all trades. I have raised five children....I have been loved and I have loved. I do not see grand designs nor do I chase afer them. Instead, I listen to the heartbeat of the land and I rejoice in a bird's song in the morning. Do not come here seeking answers for I have none. I do have questions which I will ask you constantly though. I do not believe in aruging so Politics will not be discussed in my blog. I do not care what your personal beliefs are for you are free to believe as you will...please allow me to do likewise. I have never been rich, but I have always been poor. Being poor however has never stopped me from feeling rich. I feel rich because I have the love of a good woman. Melinda completes me. She gives me the peace of mind and soul required to write about life without regrets and without envy of those who might have more. She is my world. Almosta Ranch is our heaven and we are happiy. This is what I want to share with you in this blog.

All a Man Really Needs

Rate: 34 Flag

To say that life here on Almosta Ranch is a bit slower and simpler than life in the big city is something of an understatement. Here on Almosta all a man needs is his large front porch, a sturdy chair and his yard donkey to be able to sit and enjoy a quiet afternoon. If you don't believe it, here are a few pictures Mel took to prove the point......

Jeremiah interrupts his afternoon grazing to visit with "daddy".

Jeremiah notices "momma" holding the camera and gives her a pose.

"It's time for my close-up, Mom."

And so it goes on Almosta Ranch. You folks have a good rest of the week and if you get the chance, well, we'll put out an extra chair on the porch if you happen to drop by for a visit.

Visit? The way you describe it I will become a permanent resident. R
Torman, Thank you. I needed a reminder of simplicity today. And adorableness :-)
what i'd give [sigh]. love the blue chairs and jeremiah's soft freckled nose. thanks, david.
I have donkeys and mules as neighbors now and I've become enchanted by the donkeys. There seem to be a lot of different kinds!

A "yard donkey" sounds like a wonderful thing to have!
That is so cool, Torman. I am considering a yard goat.
Oh, I thought that this was going to be about one of those ranches like they have outside of Las Vegas.

Those have got what I need.
Does he keep the grass in shape? If so I want one too! Not that a gentle poke and a visit wouldn't be as satisfying. I wish the love you and Mel gave every day, to every thing and being came in a bottle. ~r
Good day for porch sittin'. Especially if you have a little ass to join you.
I have been waiting for an invitation like that.
I'll be right there. What would you like for tea?Donuts?
I am a good cook and baker.Just let me know so I can prepare something tasty that all three of us will enjoy.

Everyone that reads this post must read your bio with it!! A man needs the love of a good woman, work that makes him happy and the devotion of a good pet...never imagined a donkey filling that last role!
Given my current discombobulation, this sounds heavenly. Jeremiah is adorable.

Lezlie
Nice to see you and Jeremiah enjoying the afternoon : )
Almosta Ranch is my moment of zen . . . or, more properly, virtual zen.
Thanks for an upbeat post, Torman. Happy is the man who knows what he needs and enjoys it while he has.
Love to you, Mel, and the critters of Almosta.
♥R
Heehaw, what a life! Turning green with envy here, Tor.
Lovely and peaceful scene...R
Sheila...Mel and I do look forward to that day, my friend.

hugs, me.....LOL! It does have a certain ring to it, doesn't it.

Trudge164.....Hey, maybe we can work a deal, I do get tired of mucking out those stalls.

heidibeth...You are welcome. Simple is what I do.

Candace....There will always be a chair for you, dear friend.

Keri h...There are many different kinds. Jeremiah is a miniture donkey and will get no bigger.

Miguela....the trouble with yard goats is that goats LOVE flowers and if you have any flowerbeds, those will be eaten first.

Spumey....Ah yes, I have heard of those too. For that I have a wife that keeps me smiling.

ThroughMyEyes....Thank you. Between the horses and my two donkies I have only started my lawnmower twice this summer so they do the job very well and they fertilize the yard as they go.

Heidi Banerjee.....Tea? Well, I like my tea sweet and over a glass of ice but since cooler weather is here I will take a big ole cup of hot chocolate.

Brazen Princess....I am lucky enough to have dogs who also fill that job pet.

Lezlie....Oh but you will be having so much fun soon on that red carpet. I can't wait to see the pictures you take.

Just Thinking....We do that a lot of late.

Owl....I have my moments of that myself and they are very nice.

Fusun....Knowing how lucky I am is why I consider myself a rich man.

Ghost.....Yes, my wife has me.

Matt...You have your chickens so nothing to envy here, my friend.

Michelle Coulter.....It is that peace that feeds my soul.
Ha ha ha ... this is why I love living in the country. We had a gander who would come up to the back door and rap on it to come in. Once my husband actually opened the door, and he walked in like he owned the place. We got him 3 female companions, and that ended his desire to watch tv in the evenings.
I want a yard donkey!

:-) / R
Sounds like a plan. Love the pics. Rated with a Jali Smile. :-)
Torman,

Jeremiah looks lovely. This seems to be all anyone really needs.
“Bucolic”is what they call it. “of shephers, herds, and flocks”
my fancy computer tells me.
Lately, a bit of a return to dogworld. New puppy.
Return to honoring the animal.

Got a cool one? Or two?
Oh, David, you just make me smile. You write so well and are so thoughtful. You are my hero. I was raised at the slower tempo in farm country, and am slowly returning to that pace. I don't have a yard donkey, but i do have a yard dinosaur (concrete.) RRR
Where's the ol' hound dog?
This is so charming, I love it. My bylaws will not allow a yard donkey, what a shame.
Most people have a dog on the porch. You have a yard donkey. That is so wonderful.
It really is simple but not many people really get it, they spend their lives devoted to all the things that aren't it. Cute donkey too.
I am absolutely enchanted by your Yard Donkey! And so enthralled by you and Almosta Ranch as well.
I love the idea of a chair waiting for me on the porch with you, Mel and the donkey dear. R THanks TOrman!
I just threw out my Xanex! Thank you. R
Torman, I LOVE these pictures. We had a little yard jack ourselves for awhile - unfortunately he "fell in love" with me at 6 months and became quite possessive, started attacking other folks who got too close to me. Vet said we couldn't get him fixed until 18 months. I found him a great home with some freinds of mine who had horses. He replaced his "affections" for a pony and I understand they lived happily ever after. Thanks for some sweet pictures!
I had no idea I needed a yard donkey. However, since I have no yard, and live in an apartment, I will settle for the living room lion, and the fat catwhale, for snuggles and ham photos.
What a close up. That should be a centrefold in some donkey glamour magazine.
I remember a song the kids used to listen to, that Raffi sang: "All I really need is a song in my heart, food in my belly, and love in my family."

Guess he didn't know about the donkey. ;)
Don't tempt me, I may be the next stray you get to take in. LOL

Beautiful pics.
What a wonderful porch sitting buddy. No need for a book or anything, just pat the nose.
Kai2....Ganders also make great "Watch dogs".

toritto...Well I do have two of them, ya want me to send one for a visit?

JALI17......The plan works for me, thanks for stopping by.

Student....Jeremiah is a joy to be around.

James Emmerling.....Bucolic? Now there's a word I need to add to my vocabulary.

Bernadine....It is a good place to return to and I'm glad you are finding your way to it.

Procopius....Actually there was a big ole redbone hound on the porch until Jeremiah decided to visit me. Him and the dog don't get along and he chases the dog off the porch everytime.

M.C.S.......Time to change the bylaws.

Chrissie.....I love it too.

l'Heure Bleue.....I spent a lot of my life devoted to those things and I'm glad I finally figured it all out.

Linnnn.....Enchanting? No, just a place where simple people live and love. I wouldn't trade it for all the tea in China.

Persistent Muse....We would love to have you come and claim that chair and visit.

marilyn sands....Almosta ranch is a drug of a different kind.

kitd....we got Jeremiah after he had reached maturity and we got his girlfriend, Jenny at the same time. He shares a pasture with her and six beautiful mares so they keep him occupied.

Oryoki Bowl....Livingroom Lions can be good too.

Linda Cooper...Oh yeah, Jeremiah is quite the ham.

AtHomePilgrim.....The Yard Donkey is a well kept secret...well unitl now anyway.

Auntynae....Well come on down!

greenheron....Those nose pats are the bestest.

rita shibr.....Thanks.
I would so come hang with you and your yard donkey! Thanks, you made me smile!
That's the life, Torman.
One of these days... oh, and I thought Jeremiah was a bullfrog. :o)
Boy if I had the funds I would be over there for the next available weekend.
I love equine noses...and by extension donkey noses as well. That spot between the nostrils is just a soft as a mouse's fur. What a porch companion!
How cool to have your own yard donkey!
rated with love
Doesn't get much better than that! But, it seems I'm always sayin' that about you....
