Bio
I am a simple man who has lived a simple life for sixty years. I have not dined with movie stars nor Kings and Queens. I have not walked the halls of power, nor have I been a mover and a shaker. I have, however, been a soldier, a tinker, a jack of all trades. I have raised five children....I have been loved and I have loved. I do not see grand designs nor do I chase afer them. Instead, I listen to the heartbeat of the land and I rejoice in a bird's song in the morning. Do not come here seeking answers for I have none. I do have questions which I will ask you constantly though. I do not believe in aruging so Politics will not be discussed in my blog. I do not care what your personal beliefs are for you are free to believe as you will...please allow me to do likewise. I have never been rich, but I have always been poor. Being poor however has never stopped me from feeling rich. I feel rich because I have the love of a good woman. Melinda completes me. She gives me the peace of mind and soul required to write about life without regrets and without envy of those who might have more. She is my world. Almosta Ranch is our heaven and we are happiy. This is what I want to share with you in this blog.

Dinner time at Almosta....When Momma Calls!

Rate: 26 Flag

Around Almosta, when Mel yells out from the front porch that dinner is ready I come running, just like I did as a little boy and Momma use to call me inside to eat.

The same is true for all the animals on the ranch....When Momma calls, they come running.

They can be out in the back pasture or on the edge of the forest grazing....

But when they hear her voice they immediately stop what they're doing and begin to move toward the sound. It is usually Jeremiah who starts the migration....

He is quickly followed by his daughter Snowball and her mom, Jenny...

The rest of the mares hurry, single-file toward their Momma and the barn.....

But my sweetheart, Shadow Dancer, has to stop by the fence and pose for her daddy just one time before hurrying on to Momma....

DSC_5527

As the mares and donkeys come to the barn for dinner, Mel's babies in the barn wait their turn.....

And to end this pictorial record of feeding time at Almosta Ranch I leave you with a picture of Mel's day lilly which is the only flower to survive our critters when they graze in the yard. I hope you have enjoyed the show.

Shadow Dancer is soooooooo beautiful, David. Dr. Doolittle had nothing on Mel.

Lezlie
*sighing* Sounds idyllic......
And Lezlie's right. Your Shadowdancer is perfectly enchanting to behold.
R (of course)
Shadow Dancer is one pretty horse!! Rated and hurries off to dinner.

Things I learned in my life --- if you don't hurry off to dinner, there might not be nothing left to eat!!! :D
I'm glad the daylilies survive the grazing. They are so beautiful and showy in a summer yard.
Yep, that's the way it was when Mamaw hollered from the farmhouse porch at lunchtime. Everybody came in--because you knew that it was going to be good and that there were more chores to do in the afternoon.
Now this is a completely different kind of post for Uncle Walt's Foodie Tuesday.
The day lilies are there for you to eat. Apparently, they are good in stir fry and on salads. Haven't tasted one yet, though.

Idyllic life indeed, but lots of hard work. You and Mel are special people.
piggies!! and daylilies- no contest which is prettier. I wish I could have a pig.
What a beautiful animal. Wow. But the rest have their own beauty, just a little more inner I think!
Yup. Who would not run when Momma calls David??

Love this.
I love day lilies, and Shadow Dancer is gorgeous. What a perfect name!
What a menagerie! The piggies are coming along nicely.
Yes, I enjoyed the show immensely./r
My mother always said, 'call me anything you like, but don't call me late for supper.' Thank you for a glimpse into Almosta. Really beautiful.
You have me waxing nostalgic. You can take the boy out of the country... R Duke
Oh My! Your Shadow Dancer is such a pretty girl! Love the babie piggies and my soft spot...the bunnies!!!
A wonderful set of photos. Next life I'm going to be some sort of fur baby living on Almosta Ranch.
...whooops...sorry...Mom's calling...
Pretty good life you got there Dave!

While I am partial to those mischievous piggies, that's a beautiful crew of diners. I wish I could hear the dinner call here in Massachusetts. I'd waddle up to the trough with them.
Sweet, bucolic, pastoral, idyllic, heavenly...I can't think of a limit to how wonderful this is.
Just right.
That Shadow Dancer is a real looker!
How is Toby?
Almosta ranch looks so green!
