Thailand under martial law, but so much to bitch about...

Rate: 7 Flag

Sure, Thailand's government has quashed peaceful protests with violence and anti-free speech measures, but after all, there's so much to bitch about on OS.  I mean, some people don't get rated, and then there's that dust up between X blogger and Y blogger over who screwed who on the EP firsties...hell, there's even the matter of whether Chuck will come back!  Fuck, I can't be bothered with bloodied protesters and vile American silence throughout the fuckface corporate TV media...I got a cover to post!

But if you must, here's the article at the guardian.  They call this a "newspaper" I understand...geesh:

The stars of late night OS are back! Let the egotistical, self-involved pieces of shit have it boys! And it's tragic about Thailand...saw it on the BBC. Nothing but drug commercials on the nightly news. (And remember, no fatty fat-fats allowed!)
Do you have a point with this article or were you just trying to sound smart by mocking the Guardian and mentioning a foreign country? Or maybe the idea of innocent protesters getting crushed is amusing to you. I suppose you prefer Rupert Murdoch's WSJ to the fair, balanced, and practical Guardian.
I am thinking of adding my own post to this excellent batch of link-inspired ditties, my demonic brothers. Thailand is a good example of a country that has been stripped of its dignity, its people abused and used by the sex-tourist and swat-shop-export industry spawned by economic colonialism. But hey, I guess those people like to be raped, seems to be the response of the fuckface American generation here. Very informative. And don't let the fuckfaces get to you. They're being called on all their shit now, and they don't like it. Ah, well...(HurumphHurumph) Amen.
It is very tragic that in the WHOLE fucking world, only Thailand is having problems. I know because I think Thailand is such a victim of the colonial powers (unlike those other countries like somalia, ghana, or I don't know about 50 fucking more who are just getting what they deserve) I will go and try to pointlessly make people on OS try to feel bad because they might not know that Thailand, and ONLY Thailand is important to me.
I was in Thailand when it was still beautiful, before the tourists came and mucked it up. It's a toss up which is worse, the sex trade or old-style colonialism. One was a long term way to suck a country dry, the other is a self-justifying, snarky way. Just look at the response of DH Austin above. This is not even remotely registering. Americans have been inoculated with years of mind-numbing consumerism to just how sadistic and evil their way of life has become. Awful motherfuckers. Awful.
My point, Davey, is that it is palpably inadequate to suggest that one place, mentioned in a linked news article by an individual more concerned with their own snarky commentary abiltiy than the complex nearly insurmountable issue of national identity and sustainability in the threatening modern world, just one place should for some reason referenced in a 1500 word "look what is happening now" be of such importance that it merits insulting every other possile written work at this entire community.

It is crass, self agrandizing, and wholy inadequate to serving the cause of righting social injustice.

On the other hand, it makes for damn fine commentary
I would like to make a little suggestion: every time an OS "meta issue" comes up (a misnomer, since meta- implies self-consciousness and there is nothing like that going on in these cases), somebody should post a link like this in the comments, redirecting readers to something useful, socially conscious, politically aware etc. If a few dozen readers did that on every "meta-" thread, the meta-folks might get the message and flounce. Then maybe this site could become open to serious posts again. Not a bad way to break through the noise. And by the way, yes, I agree that Thailand is largely a mess because of several decades of boomer lets-explore-the-world bullshit that resulted in the human trafficking industry and globalization's most vile moments. Agreed, Davey. Nasty motherfuckers.
And...you guessed it, I'm STILL with Coco.
I like Boko's suggestion. Enough with the OS shit already. Thailand is a beautiful place that HAS been tortured by Westerners for too long. They should throw us out and just trade with China. Would serve us right.
I've just done a blog about Thailand as well funny enough.

With myself being half Thai from my mums side, I am quite down about what Thailand is becoming to me.

Ok its always been for sex tourists, But the fact that they can't even keep a PM in power for more than 2 years is a joke...The Thai people expect change for the better within day 1...I have first hand experience with Thai's and they are very very impatient!

Personally, Not being anti human rights or anything, If I was the PM I would keep martial law there and give the powers to shoot on site if they go out of bounds..Especially to the PM's place..Thats just wrong..How can it be a peaceful protest if you are going after the guy where he works!
This is really sad. Are they still a strong US ally in the region? What are their relations with China and where do they stand in the unfolding financial and strategic dynamic in the region? I really know nothing about modern Thailand, apart from the sex industry -related investigative journalism I see on TV. Most of my studies of the country deal with its involvement in the Vietnam War.
