I think this is good info, but I don't think that anyone who writes on OS really cares about those already reported stories. I don't mean any offense, but we are writers and poets and we don't normally deal in recycled news. There are plenty of sites that do that. We try to be original in an artistic way. Thanks. R-
Dave, Charles is giving out vital information to those that want to stay updated on the latest trends and traffic-driving keywords. Even a poet might do a poem on the oil spill and you can use this list to make sure your tags include the right keywords to ensure your work reaches those that are searching for it.
Dave, while I know you mean well, there are in fact many of us who appreciate Charles' efforts here and SEO/traffic information. Because you are relatively new to Open Salon, you might not be aware that those at Salon who set up the site originally assumed that bloggers here would be blogging off the news and popular culture (I'm paraphrasing Kerry Lauerman here from something he said in the past, and hopefully I am characterizing him accurately).

Not everyone comes here to read or to blog on news, politics or popular culture. Not everyone writes (or reads) the poetry or fiction. It's a pretty big tent, as it is, but there are people who try to grow their blogs, who care about traffic information, who use Google and appreciate tools and tips. Salon has provided Charles' assistance for those of us who do appreciate the information he's providing. Not everyone will appreciate, obviously, but it's a bonus for the rest of us. Since he's hired by Salon and works for Salon and Open Salon is a blogging platform provided by Salon, I don't see any difficulty with Charles or any other SEO specialist for Salon providing that information here. I hope that helps.
Dave, I am not in agreement with you on this. There are some people who focus on breaking events and do an excellent job of it. As an example, I will use Kathy Riordan's work on events in Iran. It was stellar work and it was timely. Of course, Ms Riordan writes on other topics and does so superbly.

Therefore, from my perspective, I see a real use for Charles' updates. Others, with different interests, may not. I am afraid that not everyone here has an artistic inclination. I know that I do not. However, I do see a place for editorials and different perspectives on events. I hope that is not just viewed as "recycled news".
Dave, I respectfully disagree as well. I (heart) Charles Yoo's lists because even though I write slice-o-life pieces, some fiction and a poem here and there, just surveying the lists gives me inspiration and allows me to enhance the texture of my pieces with references to current topics.

Or just rant and rave about weird stuff here in Yoo's comments...Always a good time for me. :)
OK. I stand corrected. I appreciate what Charles does, and now I understand how important it is to some OS people. Maybe I just don't get it. I am writing for myself and others at OS, not anyone from outside of OS. Maybe I should look at it differently. Sorry, if I offended anyone.
