That could be a quote heard in ten Democratic Senator’s Office yesterday. These Democrats - Baucus (D-MT), Bayh (D-IN), Cantwell (D-WA), Landrieu (D-LA), Lincoln (D-AR), Murray (D-WA), Nelson (D-FL), Nelson (D-NE), Pryor (D-AR), Tester (D-MT) - voted on a tax break for the richest 0.2% of Americans. Well, not even that – for the soon to be richest 0.2% of Americans. They are reducing the tax paid on GIFTS given by Deceased Americans to those that they feel deserved to have their money. It’s called inheritance but it is really a gift. If my Brother gives me $50,000 as a wedding present to buy a house, I pay gift tax on it but if my Brother leaves me $50,000 as an inheritance I pay a lower rate…
This makes as much sense as taxing Work more than Investment.
This is another break the super rich have been able to place and keep into the tax system.
Part of the cure to this kind of system is for the voting public to start LISTENING to candidates and their message. We need to look deeper into who they are and where they came from. We need to look deeper into who their big dollar backers are and who they choose to take advice from. Take a look at the photos on their office wall and see how many are of family and personal experience and how many are of celebrities or corporate events. We need to Vote in more people who are taking a substantial pay raise to do this job and not just joining a new club.
Spend time learning about the person, not just the politics next election and we can avoid these closet Republicans from passing legislation that hurts the Super Majority for the benefit of the Super Minority!
