Emily Armstrong discusses how her love of blues, folk and punk brought Dead Sara's hard-rocking debut album to life.
DEAD SARA Interview Video - EMILY ARMSTRONG
"There's certain influences that I look to in songwriting, which is a lot of folk rock from the sixties. And then there's the influence I get from watching people on stage like Iggy Pop or Janis Joplin. So there's different kinds of influences with artists in certain ways. A lot of the '60s and '70s stuff was a big influence on Siouxsie and I, from the rock of that era, the folk of that era, the punk rock and the blues." ~~Emily Armstrong - Lead Vocalist, Dead Sara
DEAD SARA | LIVE TOUR VIDEO
I recently had a chance to talk with Emily Armstrong, lead singer of one of L.A.'s hottest up and coming indie rock bands, Dead Sara.Emily formed Dead Sara along with lead guitarist Siouxsie Medley. The two have been playing together since they were teenagers, but Emily said to me that it wasn't until they brought on board fellow musicians Chris Null and Sean Friday that they found just the right chemistry to create the hard-driving, rock drenched in punk sound that they is distinctly their own.
And chemistry is definitely a good description for what Dead Sara is packing--though theirs is far more explosive than your average four member band.
Emily is an amazing singer; one part Patti Smith, one part Janis Joplin, with a killer splash of Siouxsie Sioux-esque screeching wails thrown in to spice up the mix. Her turbo-charged vocals and energetic stage performance are complemented by the raw, fuel-injected power of Siouxsie Medley's guitar playing. All together Dead Sara has a sound that moves fluidly across genres and in all cases can best be described as fierce.

That might seem like quite a leap for a new band, but Dead Sara have been honing their stage performance for years as a crowd favorite in places like L.A. hot spot The Viper Room. You can keep up with Dead Sara on Twitter @DeadSara or on www.Facebook.com/DeadSara And check out www.DeadSara.com for tour dates and announcements.
