Global warming... who knows, who cares? Bring on the palm trees I say! It's nearly sixty farenheit, again- blue skys and light breezes. Even if the polar ice caps melt, well, we're at 900 plus feet above sea level. I will cry for New Orleans though.

Today, January 10th, 2012, I brought in the carrot harvest from my scrubby side yard garden. Yep, been saving them as it seemed they were in no danger of being weather-killed.

Come hither my succulent morsels, my sunset hued creatures of the loam!

Apparently I planted the tuna can variety.. short and fat.

Dog asks "can we cook 'em? CAN WE COOK 'EM?!!"

"Chill, doggie... I'm excited too."

January Harvest!!! I dug up leeks two weeks ago, and still have some brussels sprouts. That's one mother carrot you got there. Congrata. Good pictures.
December Iowa leek harvest? Tell me you blogged it Carol!
HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I just read your comment, Trig (I couldn't be arsed to actually read your post) and I immediately thought of Bubba from The movie "Forrest Gump" going on about shrimp!

Sooooooo, "Bubba"... You and your bro "Forrest Nanatehay" gonna get a carrot boat and go into to the carrot fishin bidness????
Oh, and your little dog too!

BWAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
It's just odd. I know I'd be bitching if it were cold, but still...odd.
Amy, funny you should say BIDNESS. That's what I say, and what I'm all about! Good catch on the gumpness. Stolen directly. My favorite movie and after all my gf is Jen-knee.

Julie, strange days indeed sista! Loving it, but strange no less. Tomorrow night will get cold, so I hear... therefore today's harvest.
Those fat muthas will be awesome simmering around a pot roast.
Ah, good daughter, if I only had enough pot to roast... sigh :)
Mother Nature is having a hot flash here too. No ice or snow yet either.

I've been on a carrot kick myself lately. Yummm, root vegetables ....
Dog doesn't eat 'em raw? Pretty cool harvest.
Plenty of roasting candidates here in tejas. just sayin'.
Scarlett, la neenya, la whatever, lalalala.. I likes it. You being a canuk, maybe not so much with your snoomoobeeeel standing idol and all.
The carrots are a kick alright... these, grown from the seed, started in, I believe, May of the 11. Hardy roots, though not as hardy as the noble beet. Good to see you, wink.

Phyllis, oh he'd eat 'em raw if I let him. I do believe he dug up a few... the squirrely little ingrate!

Rat... lol and right on. I might be down to visit Barry. You close?
Is that "idol" (as in Billy) or idle?

Neither way, I'm not big on snowmobeeeels. But speaking of root vegetables, I do lurve me some parsnips.
Cut like a log, boiled up fork tender and slathered with butter.
Too good.
I like the cut worm got in on that one. No damn pesticide in your garden.
This warming trend scares me and fascinates me at the same time.
I bet those carrots are sweeeeeet!
I have NO snow at the mountain church, and we should have had 100 inches by now, maybe packed down to 4 feet or so. Usually at this time of year the sidewalk between the house and the church looks like a bobsled run, with steep banks on both sides. Right now, in the middle of January, it looks like a sidewalk with dead grass on both sides. Scary. And today I saw turkey buzzards. They aren't supposed to be here till late March. That's probably a real bad sign.

Dang it. First it takes me 10 minutes to sign in to comment, and then it stutters. S-s-s-sorry.
Record Snowfall in Cordova, Alaska. The hot is getting hotter and the cold is getting colder and they are going to collide in super storms. It is all confused. Those carrots would be welcome anytime. What a treat. Great photos. Thanks for sharing.
Scarlett, eh BOTH! Your idol is idle! Playing of course. A stereotype, just like ours... as I told scanner "I'm a regular farmer. It's what WE do."
What's in Kansas? WHEAT! And buffalo.. hell. We have carrots too, just as you have .. parsnips? ok.. they good?
aka.. log boiled and butter slathered.. HOT--- carrots.
Carrots are sexy I think. Hot carrots in January.. wow

Gary J. faithful son of KANSAS. Sweeet.. we'll see, and oh yes I will report. I wonder if I could just keep growing them, two, maybe three years... or longer? At least to this coming winter solstice (being the last day and all.. forgot!) :D
Is that adorable little pooch the pervy Fido of your previous blog? I don't believe it. He's barely bigger than a carrot! And just as sweet-looking.
Crunch!!!
Love raw carrots!

Oh, and carrot cake/muffins too (just leave off that horrible sickly sweet icing.....ugh)

And carrot juice made the Jamaican way.... yuuuuuuuuuummmmy!

(Still waiting for our share of "warming" - it's gittin' cool now)
.
High Lonesome I do remember your reports, last year and the year before, and it was awful here too, both, but to a lesser extent of course lacking your altitude there. It's an os stutter btw, not ya ya ya... SHIT!... you. Maddening this site. I'm still mourning for the frozen girl in your town. One day... we'll... you and I.. SOMETHING. I love you!! Or- HUGZ!
zanelle.. superstorms? Sounds appropriate. Swear I feel revelations vibes these days. Read Tom Cordle today. If the Mayan Calendar don't get us........... we're still doomed!

Margaret- that IS in fact perv FIDO, now famous as you noted. THANKS! And he is sweet too. Pet love and human love. We gots! Like... interspecies love? Blog title? Front cover? Hmmmm
Sky.. we's getting the cool here presently too. It's to be expected as you could attest to better than I. I trust your snoo-vehicle is well prepared! That'd be the Tundra? Right!
Carrots ala Jamaican Juice I'd like to try.
Mentioned to gf making cake. Her mom makes killer carrot cake, which happens to be, go figure, my fav cake of all time.. and yeah, the icing I can take or leave, but she the sweetie wonders if my carrots are suitable. Due to being the ground too long or something they might not be. I get that! COULD be like sunset hued horseradish sticks by now which would suck in a 20 dollar cake! We could go buy a sack of carrots at the price chopper for seventy five cents.. see. Thanks man

Rat.. yep
Omigod. Veggie porn. Yup, definitely perfect for crockpot pot roast.

Sorry the temps aren't getting down into the low temps. You need some hard freezes so Doggie has fewer fleas to contend with next summer.
Here in the desert, we've had only two light snowfalls and both melted off soon after. Tonight is a coldish night at -6C (21F) but the days are usually above zeroC - (freezing) - and the grass is still green!

Any major city will have a Jamaican restaurant. If you can find one, try their carrot juice. There are two kinds; one is made with Guinness Stout as an ingredient and another is made without the stout. I prefer the one without - I'm an ol' boozer but I don't care for the bitterness of Guinness. I overpowers the nice taste of the carrot juice.

You can make a home made approximation by putting some carrots through your blender - Puree setting - letting the mash sit in a bowl of water for a few hours, then squeezing the juice out of the carrot mash into the water. Mix in some condensed milk to give it body and a bit of allspice, or cinnamon, or ginger. Go easy on the spice, a few grains is enough. I like to put it in the blender with a few ice-cubes and make it come out with the consistency of a Pina-Colada.

Slurps!!
.
Ah, good times, though by later on tonight, we're suppose to plummet to the twenties and such for lows!! Our low today(41) is suppose to be the high for tomorrow!! EEK!!

Conga-rats on the carrots!! I lubs them!!!!
ahhhhh the blessed garden..

rated...
If it's 70 in January, I'm afraid what it will be in August. I love carrots pulled up fresh....a bit of grit in my teeth as I munch them.
Happy Harvest in 2012!
thanks y'all... mucho
I'm late! Did you eat them? This vegetarian would cook those babies up with a nice curry sauce and a side of sweet brown rice. Yum.
You forgot my favorite -- carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I've never seen carrots that fat. Bet they'll be hard to cut, huh?

Lezlie
greenheron, recipe on the sauce???

Lezlie: the carrot cake will be done this weekend :D
