I watched a snippet of Councilman Burns broadcast on a local news station this past week. This man humbles me with his courageous humility and words of encouragement to the gay community.
I hope his clear compassion and his words give troubled teenagers of any sexuality the courage to go on. I hope adults are listening. I hope other teens are, too. I think this speech should be shown to ALL high school students across the country. Those who are not bullies I hope will put social pressure on their peers to stop doing it, and won't continue to indirectly encourage it by their silence. I hope they will gain the courage to stick up for the kids who are being bullied.
I hope every person whose bullying has made another person's life so miserable that they commit suicide experiences a soul-changing moment of shame and remorse for the harm they did.
Burns was interviewed on MSNBC today, by openly gay achor Thomas Roberts. He says he's been hearign from gay teens the world over who changed their minds about killing themselves after viewing his video.

Well I can hope, right?
And yea for those in that council room with the courage to honor his courage.
Rated for sheer guts and standing up for the count.
