Bio
Grandmother, book lover, recently retired (unwillingly) on disability. I love family, travel and reading. I live to research obscure books and am seldom bored. Loss of mobility has been a big challenge but I take it one day at a time. Patience was never my forte but love of children and relentless commitment are family traits.

I was never one for sports, neither was I especially graceful.  I limited my activities to farm work,  walking, swimming and avoided dance floors like the potential threat they were.  I was diagnosed with arthritis in my early 20s and year by year I have slowed down.  However… Read full post »

I was new in town.  A single career woman who was getting ready to apply to adopt an older child.  Audrey had lost her husband the month before we met. She had chosen to be a stay at home Mom and now was working part time for the health insurance. SheRead full post »

If credit cards or lenders want to raise the interest to Mafia rates and heap fee on fees, waste no pity on them if you have to declare bankruptcy.  If you can save your house by declaring bankruptcy, do it.  Don't drain your 401k.  Do the best you can but do… Read full post »

Dear New Computer User,

I am retired now and I have all that free time on my hands so I didn't mind when you asked me to help you install your new laptop.

You remember yesterday, while I installed 49 patches from Microsoft alone and you drummed your fingers and paced around asking, "is it… Read full post »

I remember when I was young and the thought of making a late payment, much less missing one, filled me with shame.  Having a check or card refused? Shame. Having someone actually call the house? Horror.

Then I grew up and started my family finally ending up as a single parentRead full post »

My granddaughter and I have stumbled upon a new program.  Secret Millionaire - Fox - I believe Wednesday nights - (we watch on free tv hulu.com).

The premise is simple, take 1 or 2 millionaires and dump them in the backwoods of America for one week to see what it… Read full post »

A few days ago I read a post inspired by Suzyishere about life and giving so I thought I would add my two cents.

My grandparents were sharecroppers in Delaware and, in the depression, lost everything.  They had 7 living children.  Grandpa and the children old enough to work did… Read full post »

I don't mean to write this as a bragging post, it is meant for other book fanatics, bookscouts and book sellers.  It's been a hard year and I found another hardcover copy of Moses the Kitten which cheered me up and led to this post.

Some of us are not onlyRead full post »

Born wearing a blue jean jacket...

I received her case study in January.  This would be my first child and I was single.  This would be her second placement after a disrupted adoption. No one wanted to make a mistake. For three months, my worker and I traded information back and forth with a small army ofRead full post »
