Two South Carolina brothers and a friend like to hang out at the local WalMart where they shop, and snap shots of the interestingly dressed patrons. So they decided to start a website called "People of WalMart".
According to an online article, their site has created such a stir that it caused the site’s servers to crash.

M. Todd, this reminds me of travelling days when I would sit for hours waitng for a plane and people watched. I wish I had a digital camera back then.
It's illegal to publish other people's pictures without a release.

On the other hand, there are not hard and fast rules for many situations, but the blanket statement about illegality of taking and posting images is usually incorrect. If you intend to make money from images taken of people in public, that is another matter entirely.
I sure hope these people don't breed.

I've personally known two people who were made to take down certain images because the courts now see participation in google ads on sites, and selling ad space, as a For Profit venture.
That site has both.
No flame wars meant from me either.
Apparently it's policy that you can't take pictures inside the stores or on the property.
This is from an assistant mgr, me and mr. know. I'm going to be interested on how this plays out.
