Cartouche aka O’Really? Who Cares, Really! Update

Rate: 25 Flag

UPDATE:  JUST TO BE CLEAR!

My concern is not with the "deception" or the "reveal". My concern is that this "dust-up" took away from writers who had posted things that were worth reading.

An Open Salon bottomfeeder’s two cents worth!

As most of you are aware, Cartouche revealed that she is O’Really?, really. How ho-hum. However, apparently a lot of people got their panties in a bunch over it.

As Dorinda Fox pointed out in a comment (which I can't find), throughout history, a lot of writers have used different names. The author of "The Story of O" comes to mind.

As if these two faux personas haven’t hogged the feeds on many previous occasions with their usually long posts. This weekend the "great reveal" took up most of the feed.  Some bloggers have leeched on to the controversy to snag some of the limelight for themselves. I say, “good for them”; I'm doing the same thing with this post (how’s that for meta).

Interestingly enough, a few of the OS heavy-hitters have chimed in on the "controversy". If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say this was a set-up all along, but I’m not (couldn't resist the strikethrough).

Regardless, this latest non-issue has thrown off a lot of other bloggers’ posts.

End result? both Cartouche and her alter-ego have garnered a shit-load of Views, Comments, and Ratings.

The score so far*:

Cartouche's "Think Before You Comment"

V 3929, C 260, R 78

O'Really?'s "Mistaken Identity"

V 1722, C 110, R 46

*As of 1.10.10 @ 2:31 p.m. Miami, Fla. time

A few bloggers had fun over it. Tom Cordle comes to mind.

Mr. Torman has some interesting observations.

Emma Peel had her say, and it was well said.

The ever-serene Grif blasted Cartouche in a comment on her "great reveal" post.

And Nick Carraway did a meta dance around it.

So here’s my take ….

Eminem performing "My Name is"

Here is the link in case the html doesn't work: My Name Is

Freddy Mercury preforming "The Great Pretender"

In case the html does not work, here is the link: The Great Prenteder

Jayzuz, man! Now I'm really sorry I left you out! - O'Yeah!
Rated just for posting a video of Freddy Mercury singing Great Pretender. Fabulous!
I'm fairly new here and my two cents worth is - Yes it has eaten up the airwaves or blog feed or whatever you call it ... And for what ...?
Rated for mentioning and linking to my blog.

And appreciated.

From one bottom feeder to another.
The reveal didn't bother me because I have no personal investment into either avatar, but I would never be so dismissive of someone else's feelings about the situation. The fault I find with Dorinda's list is that many of the artists on it didn't hide the noms from the ones closest to them, which seems to be the crux of the issue.
Damn fudge417! I've been called a lot of things in my day, but never "EVER-SERENE." You have some nerve you little tanuki and I'm sending this right on to the editors for prompt legal action. I find this over-slanderous (whatever the hell that means).

Off to a Carolina-Ottawa hockey game at 5:00pm. Hope you are doing well.
I'm way too new to voice my thoughts on this, but Trudge's voice appeals to me and so does this post... so ... rated.
If "dustups" are what we call some of the posts that have tons of controversy and many many diverging viewpoints expressed with tons of passionaround them;.............................................., does that make the authors of such posts "dust devils? : )

Bad jokes are a way of life, so forgive me.
Yep. This double indemnity thing has taken up a lot of minds and keystrokes....the problem with the comparison to writers with pseudonyms is this: using one example, Anne Rice, who also writes erotica as Anne Roquelaire. Anne Roquelaire has never emerged and drawn people into a personal dilemma nor has she critcized Anne Rice for being more popular. One writer simply used two names to write in two genres. xox
Yeah, from one bottom feeder to another. Right on. I like this place but a writing site? Spare me. That thing came out on Fiction Friday and there were many good stories published. But what got the attention: Some silly bullshit and knocked all the fiction to the curb. I bet those writers really dug it. Craft a work of art and display it only to watch as the masses flock to the bullshit booth. I have played there too so I am not innocent but this one was especially silly. American Idol, OS style....
And Eminem's The Real Slim Shady is brilliant...IMHO...xox
yeah, yeah, whateva...

On a much more important point: Dreddie singing "The Great Pretender" ROCKS!!!!
G*ddamn it, I insert myself into the drama for once and I don't even get a mention?

How's this:

"The stone-cold Lainey got a little hot and bothered."

There's even a statue reference in that quote. You can use it if you want, you know. Just make sure you link to my blog and not to Cartouche's. ;)
too bad Freddie took that HIV injection.
I think you're right Trudge. It's probably enough. My intent was to explore the larger issue of what the internet might become, or not become.
Okay, this is my mantra for the day...let's move on people!
Who and/or what the fuck is a "cartouche" and an "O'Really"?
ClarkK, let dat be a lesson 2 ya.

Jane S. Redux, you and who's army? BTW, as the officially unofficial OS muckraker, I have dredge up the truth on any given day.

Leonde, the man has some pipes.

Scarlett, that is my point. As a newbie, remember all Trudge164, all the time.
Nick, that's the spirit.

-TTFN, point well taken.

Grif, go Ottawa! BTW, have your liar ... err. lawyer call my liar; we'll serve time together.

Fernsy, I have that affect on women.
JD Smith, bad jokes are the standard here.

Robin, this is true. They really were experimenting.

Dr. Spudman44, that is my point. This farcical fracass has derailed the posts of others.

Robin, again. I'm standing.

Token Tarheel, actually the Ben Franklin example was already used. BTW, how are my stats doing?

Safe Bet, the man could belt them out.
Lainey, sorry.

WalkAwayHappy, I hope mine is the last.

Trig, a great shame indeed.

Emma Peel, enough is enough.

Brie, thanks. Long time, no write.
How have you been?

Sweetfeet, "...nothing to see."

MJwycha, I don't know, but if you post about them people will read you.
I'm the read Dude, so fuck Slim Shady. Good Post Trudge!!
Scanner, thanks, and what you and eminem do in the privacy of your blog is none of business. : )
I thot I gave this fart in a hurricane story the proper "weight" with my post. And as I commented elsewhere, Patricia Cartouche O'Really deserves credit for 'fessing up -- it would have been a lot easier to laugh up here sleeve (if she had one) and walk away leaving all the "followers" of O'Really wondering wtf happened. I know someone who did exactly that, but I'll never tell.

As for you, you neglected to post the Ray Charles/Ronnie Milsap duet "I Didn't See A Thing".
trudge : so obviously I got your point. right back atcha :
remember scarlett sumac especially on fiction friday ...
Not sure if anyone else has noticed this yet, but the cartouche and O'Really blogs have mostly been deleted today, with just a handful of posts left standing.
I have a bigger problem with the narcissism of the reveal than the dirty deed itself. I never read O'Really, so it didn't affect me.
Tom, your propensity for propeling copious amounts of odorous gastronics ass-tounds me. Sorry, about missing the duet; I was being propelled by Divine Wind.
Scarlett, again, I will remember you, frankly.

Amanda, tru dat.

Kathy, so does this mean I have the last word?

Restocking, I'm more upset about the draw it garnered which left the other writers with very little readership.
Sorry, that's Redstocking.
Hey fudge - the Canes trounced Ottawa 4-1. 'Nuff said on that.
I love when people tell me who they really are, especially in all these offspring posts and comment threads. And they though I was deceptive. Interesting.
Trudge and anyone else...after all of this...I am concerned today about the person behind all this...I can be as disappointed as I want, but I feel there is something deeper going on...just a feeling....as Kathy said, most of the posts on both blogs have been deleted...xox
I'm just sad, cause I finally discovered who Dr. Amy was....

Damn my cousin!! WAAAA!!!

~wanders off~
geez, I don't read as much over the weekend and look what I miss. so much drama.
OS posts about OS members tussling about OS and how it's used by OS members and run (or not) by OS editors routinely take away from writers who post things worth reading. It's been that way from the very beginning and will remain a feature of this website as long as it exists.

C'est la vie.
Thanks for this. OS was in a tizzy when I flounced in July and I come back to... this?

Sheesh.
The point of my post was that I don't care about bloggers having multiple accounts. When I would read O'Really? I always got the vibe that it was someone else using a nom de plume.

In all honesty, I thought it was IAmSurly. I was quite surprised to find out it was Cartouche. Kudos to Cartouche for fooling me.

The point of this post is that the dust-up took away from other writers.

'NUFF SAID!

On a lighter note check out my latest post:
http://open.salon.com/blog/trudge164/2010/01/11/miami_didnt_freeze_but_it_sure_as_hell_frosted_over

Talk about your meta-blog-whoring: I just blogwhored on my own post. Can you top that?
trudge -- you can blame TC for me showing up here, late as usual, just to say this: I'm not who I am, but my alter ego runs the show. I don't have but the one account, and I wrote about this guy who isn't me -- or is me to the exclusion of my slave name, ad nauseum, in the longest, most boring post I ever put up here. So when it comes to blog whores I think I may have just one-upped you. Or not. Trip was worth it just for Freddie. The rest is about as exciting as my current post -- and you can thank TC for that, too. Yet, strangely, rated.
AJCalhoun, as long as you come to the party with ratings and comments, better late than never is fine by me.

fredfish4, nice attempt at spamming. ZAP!
