HOW DID JEFFERSON KNOW?

Rate: 3 Flag
John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white House for a group of the brightest minds in the nation at that time. He made this statement:

"This is perhaps the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather at one time in theWhite House with the exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."

Especially read the last quote from 1802.

When we get piled
upon one another in large cities, as in Europe,
we shall become as corrupt as Europe .

Thomas Jefferson

The democracy will cease to exist
when you take away from those
who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every
generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A principle which if acted on would save
one-half the wars of the world.

Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for
Americans if they can prevent the government
from wasting the labors of the people under the
pretense of taking care of them.

Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me
that most bad government results from too much
government.

Thomas Jefferson

No free man shall ever be debarred
the use of arms.

Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the
people to retain the right to keep and bear arms
is, as a last resort, to protect themselves
against tyranny in government.

Thomas Jefferson

The tree of liberty must be
refreshed from time to time with the blood of
patriots and tyrants.

Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with
his taxes the propagation of ideas which he
disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

Thomas Jefferson

Thomas  Jefferson said in
1802:
'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to
our liberties
 than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property - until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'

AMEN, brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I especially like this one....

"My reading of history convinces me
that most bad government results from too much
government." Thomas Jefferson
the colossal hypocrisy of this profligate wastrel should be more famous, a man who owned 200 slaves lived over-well on their labor, died in debt, and proclaimed 'equality' and 'frugality' as his ideals.

he would have needed personal firearms in his last years, to keep off the debt collectors.
Oh how we must humanize our forefathers: their good points, their foibles. But in the end, what is remembered? Jefferson, despite his failings, wrote a good portion of the most important part of our government: the constitution. I suggest everyone take a chance to read it again.
2 thumbs..wow he really nailed all our problems. He was ahead of his time for sure..
The guy was a huge dichotomy whose star has fallen in recent historical times. He died in huge debt that, in the day, had to be paid off by heirs. His grandson finally had it all retired when he was in his 60s.

Washington freed his slaves upon his passing. Jefferson did not, including some it seems pretty clear he fathered.

Jefferson was an incredible political mudslinger in his day. He and Adams did not correspond for twenty years after he excoriated Adams in the 1800 election. He also had his fingerprints all over some press shenanigans that precipitated the Burr/Hamilton duel that ended in Hamilton's death.

History gets written by the victors, and in the early colonial times Virginia was the victor with Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe all coming from Virginia. Massachusetts lost. Hence Adams was a failure and Jefferson a great visionary.

There's a little more balance regarding those two these days.
WOW! Thanks all for coming!
OK
Flon,
Mine was the gardening tips :]

loomis,
You can pick apart any life an find problems. You and I are no better.
He was the 1st and last President to have no debt.

Kim,
Never apologies for long post to me. As long as they are dead on accurate like that one. Friended back

Woman,
His foresight was little more than seeing how people were treated then. Our Fore Fathers would go nuts to see us today.

Cindy,
We are simply repeating the mistakes of the past w/o another country doing it to us.

Gwool,

Yeah, Jefferson, the man, wasn't that great of a person. He was a great leader, and that is what I look to. What worked in the past will work today, what failed in the past will fail today.
I love the last statement in the post.
Kosher,

Jefferson HATED, HATED, HATED banks.

Turns out he was right.
