The health of the mother is kind of important

Rate: 20 Flag

John McCain's dicussion about abortion last night was offensive, especially when he pooh-poohed the importance of preserving the health of the mother. Oh yeah, I forgot. Women are just sperm depositories.

Here is the segment in question:

As Rachel Maddow noted, McCain is advocating for women to be at the mercy of the state, to carry any child to term under any circumstance, even in the case where it might kill us. The Handmaid's Tale, anyone? Here's my response:

love the graphic. and your thoughts behind it.

although, please dont throw tomatoes at me, the face does look a little sarah palin blow-up doll-like. is that intentional?
I think there is no valid way of getting around the fact that there are some situations where continuing a pregnancy can be detrimental to a mother's health in concrete ways. I'm thinking of severely malformed fetuses and polyhydroamnios, maternal hypertension, or diagnosis of the mother with cancer requiring urgent treatment. Some women would continue the pregnancy and take the risk, but should they HAVE to?
I think you might be projecting. I thought she looked like Lucy from Peanuts. But blowup doll, definitely. (From a very cool font called "Sex & Crime.")
Yeah, the 'quotes' thing around the word health was chilling.
Excellent visual. I love this!
The government has NO right to take control in the matter of abortion. Republicans always want everything THIER way, regardless. I'm sick and tired of them trying to push their ways on everyone else, because they are so afraid of change and people having the freedom to choose. I wish they'd grow up!!!
I had the same problem, among many, when McCain was talking about this issue. Your graphic is wonderful...and the passionate red color you chose is stunning.
This was one of the most stunning things I'd seen/heard from McCain. Hit me at a very visceral level, probably physically located around the area of my uterus! Unvarnished, actual truth about how he feels on this subject. I'm sure there are some who completely agree with him, but I bet they were already going to vote for him. So I'm guessing (and hoping) this particular nugget of insight into his thinking on the abortion issue is a decision maker for many undecided voters. Maybe some of those remaining PUMAs??
*Love* the graphic!
Abortion's a tough issue. I have to support family choice but let me emphasize family by including the father so long as the relationship was consensual. Abortion is euthanasia and along with other form of euthanasia, ought to be restricted, but available.
He has contempt for women and he certainly showed it. Women really have to disengage their brains (and their uteri!) to be able to vote for him.

rated thanks
To Senator McCain, Governor Palin and their supporters, I would say: if you oppose abortion, DON'T HAVE ONE.

This is a personal choice, and I find it more than ironic that I have known abortion opponents who have availed themselves of this safe medical option but would deny it to others. Hypocrisy at its finest. I'm disgusted.
So, Mr. McCain, it's not okay to kill babies in the womb, but it's okay to carpet bomb them?
I found most of what Senator McCain said to be offensive.

I found offensive his statement that he sang his song, Bomb Bomb Iran privately, as a joke, to his good friend. I saw him singing to a microphone in front of an audience.

I found the song itself offensive.

I found offensive that he told us that Obama had never traveled south of the US.

I found offensive each lie he told us, one after another, during the entire debate and during his entire campaign.

I also find offensive that McCain, who testified "truthfully" during the Keating Five affair, can lie minute after minute when something important to him is on the line.

I found offensive his demenure when his opponent was talking.

And I agree with your comments.
