Will Someone Please Remove the Elephants From the Room?

Rate: 1 Flag

I am always amazed how many stories can occur in a week and suddenly appear on my television.  Cable news organizations scrape the bottom of the barrel for the latest "scoop."  I watched several sagas over the past seven days, each dripping information and as annoying as a leaky spigot.

This week, I tried to write my thoughts on a few headlines, with an impossible cohesive flow of content .   I never knew so many elephants could appear in a room at once.

The Salahis, that couple who decided to just show up at the first White House state dinner won't go away.  The media will not let them.  They may as well have packed a bag and stayed a couple of weeks.  They are loving it, the White House staff is not.

I believe they are one sick, superficial con artist couple.  And I scrutinize Bravo television which seemingly encouraged a trailer trash entrance into the dinner.  I knew reality television has no boundaries, but this was stooping below sea level.  It was a dumb, dangerous mistake and I can only hope heads have rolled over the incident.

Tiger Woods did himself no favors and his damaged car is the least of his worries now.  Tiger is a great athlete and has given back much to underprivileged youth.  His name is gold.  But that doesn't mean he doesn't lead a messy personal life, which he does apparently.  No wonder he demands so much privacy.

I am hoping this incident in the Woods' family will bring him back down to reality.  It's none of our business if he argues with his wife.  But he, who has never experienced bad publicity, needs to realize privacy ends at his front door.  One cannot cause a public hazard then claim privacy.  If it had been you or me, the city would hand deliver a bill for damage to public property.  So get smart, Tiger.  Man up.  You caused your dilemma, now fix it.

Meanwhile, our president sent all sides of the political aisle scrambling and stuttering after his announcement of sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan.  It is a choice I don't like but I understand why.  The two wars in which we are involved are really fights against Iran and Pakistan.

That region will never be at peace.  One only need to check the Old Testament in the Bible to prove it.  It is why I make no distinction for nationalities in that theater.  Those not of Jewish or Christian faith are all "Ishmaelites" to me because God declared trouble the day Ishmael was born.  You can believe it or not, but my mind is made up.

This has been a lot to ponder in one week.  And a lot of elephants to walk around while doing so.
