I Thought We Are a Commonwealth

Rate: 0 Flag

The Virginia General Assembly is in session and our new governor has proposed his budget, which shows why I am glad I did not vote for him.  He has proposed most of the budget cuts in, yes you guessed it, education and health care programs.

I am not shocked or in awe.  I am livid.  "All the cuts give me heartburn," he was quoted.  Heartburn?  That's all?  I suppose what gets my dander up the most is that his budget cuts could affect the health care I receive.

Yesterday as I was driving, I listened to a radio commercial with several Virginians touting what our Virginia State Parks offer.  It made me proud.  My first summer job was as a ranger at Pocahontas State Park.  At the end of the ad, Governor McDonnell brags on several aspects of our park system.  And we do have some of the most beautiful in the nation.  But yesterday he was also proposing closure of five parks.  Heck of a job, Brownie.

I don't like two-faced people, of which he is one.  He'd be wise to yank the ad, as we say down South.  Oh, and how much did that advertisement cost?

Let me get this straight, Governor McDonnell.  You don't want a national health plan.  Yet you also want to cut the state plan that offers treatment to people in similar situations as mine.  And there is no offer from you to cut your health care or any General Assembly care.  Only others' treatment.  Ask any teacher what he or she thinks of your education cuts.

The only advice I can give him is be prepared for a legislative fight.  Thank goodness for the General Assembly.  And thank goodness for our one term governor requirement.

Don't you just love, how the "haves" don't give a damn about the have nots! The Republicans keep saying how they wan't things to stay the way they are. Which really translates as " we have ours, so the hell with you! "
this took a little researching. the past two governors were dems. i see that the state of virginia is somewhere around 2Billion in debt.
your anger seems to be misdirected. you are angry about the cuts. shouldn't it be directed at the ones that drove your state into the ditch ? if the past governors had not spent you into such a huge debt, the cuts would not be nessasary. true or not ?
if you overspend in your own home, you have to make cuts where needed, whats the difference with a state or the country ?

everytime socialism is tried it fails. the true anger should be at the ones that created the debt. the wins for conservatives in Va ,NJ and Mass is a signal that people are getting fed up with reckless spending and taxing. you can not tax people into prosperity.

you know i am right, though you will never admit it. don't hate me because i am beautiful
Desert_fox, the Commonwealth of VA has 2 yr. budgets. The $2 Billion is left owed by the current Gov. Kaine budget. However, constitutionally, VA cuts any money owed out of programs on June 30; it will be unpaid, whether for people or projects. High unemployment has led to less revenue. If there is a surplus it goes into the General Fund. On July 1, 2010, the next McDonnell budget begins with a zero balance owed. So no, this has not accumulated under 2 state governors. I don't know that you're right, only that you are more conservative than I. I am a Jeffersonian Democrat. I can't admit you're right on facts because I do know about Virginia government and on that, you are wrong.
