Bio
In this bio I am going to focus on what brings me joy and not on work related stuff. I am the mother of two wonderful boys that are about 6 inches taller than their father:-) Over the years I have rescued numerous dogs and cats. I had to stop volunteering at my rescue organization because I kept keeping all the animals. I am a jewelry hobbyist and hope to one day produce exhibition quality work. I recently received notice that my jewelry will appear in a Lark Book and Art Jewelry Magazine HOORAY. In starting my Art Jewelry Online business I am humbled by all of the support I have received from the artistic community and non-profit agencies that assist us. I am new to blogging so be patient with me as I get the hang of it.

Fiction Versus Non-Fiction

Rate: 4 Flag

I have one husband and two sons.  I have never seen any of them open up a book that is based on fiction.  I do however see them reading the news (internet), how to books, sporting events (on the internet) and picking up the occassional autobiography.  Since I am the minority I am constantly harrassed about how it is a waste of time to read fiction.  Yesterday I finally came up with a retort that has put the arguement to bed.  The difference between fiction and non-fiction readers is that when you read a book of non-fiction it gives you what you expect and takes you to where you want to go, but when you read fiction it takes you to unexpected places and getting there is so much fun!

Yes...........and so much more!!!!
Fiction can have as many truths in it as non-fiction, and truth is never a waste of time.

I like what Twain said about fiction vs. non-fiction.
"Fiction must be plausible."
Some non-fiction can lean toward fiction and tell a story with a motive while, as Melinda channeled Twain, fiction needs truth. Still, coming from someone who has spent many years trying to be an objective journalist, I respect unbiased facts as much as a great work of fiction --- and as an fiction writer, I appreciate your take ("fiction takes you to unexpected places") and strive to do just that when I'm busy putting letters and words in a row... rated.
Aaron, Since I have spent a great deal of my life reading for work when it comes to my personal life I want to escape. I love science fiction such as the Doomsday Book by Connie Willis and Wild Seed by Octavia Butler. Some folks do drugs and alcohol and I do science fiction.
