THE NEW MCCARTHY

Rate: 2 Flag

800px-West_Hartford,_Connecticut_health_care_reform_town_hall_meeting,_2009-09-02White White liberals, for the most part, bereft of any expectations of passiing a full blown government run health care system, are resorting to using the last arrow in their quiver of demonizations, calling any opponents that imply that Obamacare is socialistic is  the dreaded  "R-word."

"R-A-C-I-S-T"

One can track the spread of the common commentary from MSNBC to CNN to the NYTimes.  Socialism, according to liberals, is now a substitute word for the "N-word."

With no proof other than a trickle down his leg, Chris slowly brews his "socialism is n-word" brew.  From guest to guest, he quietly proposes his theory and then waits to see if their minds are meshing with his, as if planting seeds in  a garden.

Is he any different from Joe McCarthy?

Gee, and here I thought calling people "socialists" was the same as calling people "commies".
ocular...I though commie was the new fascist. Or is racist the new collectivist? Now McCarthy is the new Al Sharpton, evidently.
What a mess the Republicans get into by pandering to racists. I feel so sorry for them.
No Oc, McCarthy made baseless and unsubstantiated charges based on association, liberal media are doing the same. Saying that a govenment run health care program is socialist is factually correct.
A government run healthcare system is not socialist, so your statement can't be correct. I notice you use liberal and conservative in the same loose misunderstanding way. Then, you conflate what one person says with the total of the "liberal media," which is another illusion.
Given this combination of factual errors and dull thinking conflation, is there a reason you should be taken seriously?
If a government run healthcare system is socialist, then Jefferson, Adams and Madison were socialists. Perhaps you believe you could explain the Constitution and socialism to them.
I give up. I don't know who's who or what's what anymore I need a vacation, but what if I get sick?

The world is full of euphemisms. And the world is also full of idiots who spew them. Even worse are the people who don't know what the terms are supposed to mean and use them because some flack bandied abut the term. You sir, are one of those idiots.
I would love to see people stop using the word "socialist" without knowing what socialism is, without understanding that socialism is an economic system and not a political one. And socialist-ish programs are NOT a threat to this country.

We have had what one might term "socialist-like programs" in this country for a long time. These programs are put into place because our economic system elevates the wealthy and depresses the poor. Middle class people are being pushed into poverty, and the gap widens between the rich and the poor. Once a program passes into law, it benefits so many people that it becomes a beloved part of life here, as have Medicare and Social Security. You will never see those programs get rescinded because it provides a better life to so many.

It is inhumane and immoral to systematically reduce people's money, earning potential and security, and then make them suffer with an untreated illness or injury. It forces people into bankruptcy, and all of this to line one's own pockets. Bankruptcy affect one's ability to buy a home or a vehicle.

A socialist type of program is one paid with taxes which provides essential services to people who have lost their ability (due to economic conditions and, dare I say it, corporate/conservative repression, misinformation, scare tactics, and banditry) to care for themselves. The government does everything on taxpayer money--that is what they do--so doing this is not anything new or radical.
Spewing euphemisms...interesting coming from a guy who says that misusing "terms" makes one an idiot. You might just want to want to buy a dictionary my vocabulary challenged friend.
I'm ready for a vacation too, John. I've forgotten what irritated me about Chris Matthews. Oh yeah, I am for government run vacations, if they do not cost me anything and I do not have to ride Amtrak.
Rated for expressing your opinion when you know it is unpopular, but I do think there is *some* racism in the criticism of Obama. Is all criticism of him racist? No. But there is a hysterical edge to the criticism and fear of him that I have not seen before for other presidents. Also, there are some signs at protests that are obviously racist (though I know that some of the media will always show the worst of any protest, not the average).
Ms. Delia of Mississippi,

Since I spent one semester at EMJC at Scooba, I'm sure you and have seen our fair share of true racism. While I cannot deny that there are those who harbor racist thoughts about Obama, but racism is a disease of the heart, and Chris Matthews nor any other liberal is qualified as a hate cardiologist. Obama is an person whom I admire but think is moving us along the road of creeping socialism. If he spoke like Reagan, white Republicans would be naming their sons Barach. Bubbas all across Mississippi would be hollering to their sons, "Barach, turn the satelight dish towards Aunt Lucy's and then come on inside, son, Momma's got supper on the table and Rusty Wallace is on TV. Honey, where my Cash CD of Folsom Prison?" Racist? I don't think so. Know what I mean?
