Something about this notice gives me a tingle up my leg. It just makes my “weird alert sensitivity” meter begin to vibrate.
I am probably way off base here, but, I mean, you would think that the Salon people would already have a gigabyte or two of names of potential editors to choose from without posting a help wanted ad for an editor in a forum of desperate would be writers and editors…..desperate, or more accurately, “if I could only write and actually get paid for it without relocating, I would do anything short of driving an SUV.”
It’s like dragging a solar panel with a bicycle through an alternative lifestyle commune. It is unseemly.
Just the avatar of Kerry Lauerman weirds me out a little. . Even if he is only one email from human resources away from being a commenter on OS and not an editor, he seems smug. Nothing personal ,Kerry, I am just trying to keep it right wingnut real. The whole package, avatar and alert-want ad reminds me of a cyber voyeur.
I know. I should talk….with my former dog eyes avatar. But the cycloptic Lauerman avatar gives me the heebie jeebies.
And they leave the ad up for such a long time; almost like they are having too much fun reading the pleading letters and resumes to take the ad down.
Remember, the want ad for the art director that stayed up for 8 months. Ten dollars to a dime, the person hired was not an OS commenter.
I am really not paranoid; after all, I am a dirt salesman, obviously not a writer. I own my own real estate development business and I’m not looking for a job. However, my intuitions are pretty good and I have learned to listen to them.
So, to you excellent would be editors, and there are some really fine writers on OS, save yourself the time and deny the voyeurs the chance to see how desperate you are.
Boycott the OS editor want ad….and power to the peoples.

I support Salon trying to find a candidate that actually has held the position of "Editor" at least once in their professional life as opposed to people who can post good writing on a free blog hosting site.
No offense, vigilocanis, but I’m little irked by the number of people who feel qualified to be a professional editor here (or recommend someone for the position, or make demands, or what have you) based simply on the fact that they post here. I use real estate… so now I’m suddenly as qualified (or more) as you to run your real estate business? I walk on dirt every day, and will work for 15% less than you. Should your manager give me your job?
How many of the folks who applied for the job (or are bitching loudly about it) have any clue how to successfully edit and manage a blog host while contributing to the overall profitability of a parent new media enterprise? My guess is that Salon pays crap (as most progressive new media outlets do) and they are having a hard time finding somebody who can actually DO the job for the money they pay. From the daily drama I’ve seen unfold on opensalon, I would be hesitant to hire anybody TOO steeped in the “OS culture” as it tends to juvenile personal vendettas. As a business owner yourself, is that what YOU want in an employee?

and i agree it's hard to imagine that the person who's hired will come from the OS membership.
