FedEx is taking it's sweet time delivering "Mockingjay" to my local Borders. I knew I should have bought it outright instead of getting sucked into their "$8.99!!!" special on their website. What's that? You don't know what "Mockingjay" is? It's the final book in the super popular "Hunger Games" trilogy.....super popular among the young adult set.
I don't think there is anything wrong with an adult reading a book that is meant for teens. I mean, 1 in 4 adults has read a Harry Potter book. (Okay, I'm making that up but it's plausible.) One of my favorite YA books is "The Book Thief". I picked it up at my company's book fair a couple of years ago and I was impressed. I'm not sure what I was expecting out of a YA book. Perhaps something frivolous, meaningless and devoid of any substance. I'm not sure. But I remember reading it and saying to myself, "There is no way this is meant or a 14 year old kid. No way!" Serves me right for being a judgmental "old" lady. Now I'm happily hooked on YA books and trying to get my friends hooked on them as well (I recommend Suzanne Collins and Carrie Ryan.)
As I wait for my book to be delivered, I think I'll go back to hanging those Jonas Brothers posters up in my room. Kidding!
