Bio
Virginia Olive Hoge is an artist and writer living in Pasadena, California. She was first introduced to Topix when a serious of hostile threads and polls were built on the Pasadena Topix forums which attacked her and her liberal blog. The Topix threads built on Topix for Virginia/Ginny/Olive, now number in the hundreds. She has become one of the most trolled posters ever on Topix, stalked the entire time and is well-known there. A fighter, she has fought back on Topix, defending herself and others there. She jumped onto the National Topix forums to understand better what was going on around the entire Country and beyond, and became familiar with the raw, brutal, coarse, dramatic, violent, and mythical world that is Topix.com. Welcome to the outer-limits of free speech, the Wild, Wild West of Citizen Journalism. She was on Topix for four years. What a odyssey it was.

look at the data, Chris Tolles, the human data

Chris Tolles' post on Topix.com:

Topix Weblog: Anonymous Comments a " By The Numbers"

excerpt: "But looking at the numbers, eliminating anonymous comments is only going to limit the number of comments at the end of the day, not dramatically improve the quality of discourse on the web."

The data you want Chris Tolles, is well-provided for by your own Topix threads, which are loaded with bad behavior data, and I mean loaded. Evidence of bad behavior is stuck like flies to fly-paper on these Topix threads, its everywhere.

"Data" means nothing anyway, we are talking about human beings here on Topix, not data.

Human beings and their thoughts and opinions, are supposed to be what Topix.com is all about. And yet, by facilitating bully-trolling and open racism and condemnation of the poor and abusive behavior...

Topix.com is practicing abuse of human beings and this is a human right's violation.

I ask for Topix to amend their troll-encouraging practices, and restore these threads to the "local watering hole" - places for civic discourse and debate - you claim to be.

Bullying and hatred would not be allowed to be displayed at a real local watering hole, no way, civic discourse would not be allowed to be inhibited and shut down.

Ethical behavior is a must for civic discourse to function.

of course the troll Gin Knee commented, my answer:

You would know, Gin Knee. Chris, let me introduce you, in case you haven't already met, to Gin Knee, one of the worst trolls on Topix. She authored at least 16 of the Topix.com attack forums.

But let me address Gin Knee's comment. In your post, Chris, you say:

"But looking at the numbers, eliminating anonymous comments is only going to limit the number of comments at the end of the day, not dramatically improve the quality of discourse on the web."

It sounds like you count comments by the numbers, irregardless of the content. The problem with this is, so many of the comments are hostile and abusive. They are content, content Topix is accountable for.

Further, it is not entirely true that you seek mere number of comments, because Topix encourages bully-trolls, who scare away commentators, hence less numbers.

This becomes manufactured opinion.
