"Mad Men" finale: What's worth a fight?

Don Draper and the denizens of Sterling Cooper take drastic measures in the face of a brave new world

Open Salon

Have you noticed?  On the new Salon.com beta, every single article has a box on the right side of the page with related OS posts. For instance, Salon's Heather Havrilesky's recap of last night's "Mad Men" season finale has a link to OS's Silkstone's recap of the "The Hobo and the Gypsy," Season 3 episode 11 of  "Mad Men."  (A grumble-- there's NOT a link to Silkstone's recap of last night's finale, which is much more in-depth and interesting than Havrilesky's.)

But hey gang, give the Editors a shout-out for highlighting OS-related blogs, even those that weren't blessed by an EP or a Cover.  Maybe now everyone can stop worrying so much about those things!

Thank you Kerry, Thomas, and Joan, for recognizing the skills of OS writers.

I didn't know of this. How cool!
Very, very cool. Thanks for pointing this out!
nana and owl, check it out!
Awesome. Thanks for telling us!
Thank you Kerry and Joan.
How cool - I hadn't seen that yet! (I'm guessing they set up the links before I posted my recap in the wee hours last nite)

thanks for the info and shout-out!
And yes, Joan and Kerry and everyone working on integrating the 2 sites deserves a big thanks!!
amen and amen, thanks voicegal for bringing this to the front. I've been blessed to be a part of it all.
it seems you might be mistaken about them featuring posts that didnt get EPs. every one I clicked on was an EP. which one wasnt? hate to rain on this parade, but maybe its just the same old elitism.
I didn't know either - awesome! (hey! that's me!)
I think that it was about two weeks ago on a Wednesday or Thursday that they started doing this. I was hoping to see one of my posts showing up with Joan Walsh, Glenn Greenwald or Joe Conason, but no such luck. The rotation of some of the OS posts has been quite slow so if you get in you may be there for a week or longer!
vzn, I could be mistaken, because I didn't click on all of them. But some I saw had the "gray head" avatar and their titles were not familiar to me. Usually the editors don't "promote" folks with "gray heads-- they're just not viewer friendly.

Sandra, it IS you!

designator and bbd, I bet we'll be seeing you up there soon.
Funny that they would pick my post "Biting Through" as a related link to the Mad Men piece. All I do is giving a glancing reference to Mad Men in my first graf of my piece, which is really about a search for a literary agent. I guess we should all use the words Obama, George Clooney, journalism and mothers in the first paragraphs of all our pieces from now on, to increase chances of being included in such lists.

For the benefit of all, here are sample sentences to use. Have fun.

"Though some may talk about the death of journalism during the Obama administration, if George Clooney had his way, every mother would be a content provider."

"I was a mother who loved George Clooney, but my journalist sister, who covered the Obama campaign for Playgirl and now is a moth of three small children, loves Brad Pitt more."

"Barack Obama has a choice to make: George Clooney for Secretary of Defense, or the journalist Keith Olbermann for Secretary of Helath and Human Services. Either way, my mother would be happy!"
