hi all, as I mentioned in recent blogs Ive been tied up with a new sweatshop job so havent been able to goof around as much in cyberspace, ouch. but, I have been reading & commenting & collecting the pics as usual. old habits die hard.
and of course, the misc wild links Ive run across on love, relationships, gender, sex.
some themes that pop out at me. 1st, the psychology and science of addiction is undergoing a lot of fast evolution right now in my opinion. new studies are linking up most addictions to the same pleasure centers, systems, & neurotransmitters in the brain that are largely oriented around regulating food & sex. I would argue its all nearly the same mechanism, but that will be something to sort out over the years.
2nd, the idea that males are not as financially successful lately, or that women are becoming so successful that maybe while men are not less so, the females are eclipsing them in comparison, and this is seriously affecting the dating market. and I remind you, again, as science has convincingly showed, it is indeed very much like a market. buyer meets seller, bid meets ask. etc.
next, the media commotion and handwringing over Ashley Madison and its flamboyant ceo continues. its a definite cultural phenomenon and everyone seems to have an opinion. his continual assertion that it actually helps marriages stay together is really pushing a lot of buttons out there. an assertion that is not immediately disprovable and, I suspect, some supporting evidence may exist, which all certainly twists up your thinking on the whole subj. Id say it leads into the key issue of quality of marriage. it would be uncontroversial to assert, if a good marriage breaks up thats a bad thing, but if a bad marriage breaks up, is that a bad thing?
then theres the Daily Beast gallery on open marriages. what a great idea! I did that post a long time ago and strangely enough, many of our choices coincide. one wonders if someone-or-other stumbled across my page with a google search. one can always dream. one wishes one might get a little credit in cyberspace occasionally. that really *is* a dream. as the beautiful women say scathingly to a man who's not good enough... dream on.... sometimes I think even little girls learn that phrase almost in kindergarten.... ouch
