early take on the Strauss Kahn incident

Rate: 5 Flag

hi all. this Strauss Kahn incident has all the elements to make me either totally uninterested or rapt with attention.

its likely to generate mountains of media coverage, it already has. it seems to be a rare occurence of a rape case of astonishingly large international significance. I mean, this almost outdoes clintons Lewinsky scandal. why? because [like the hoaxes I am going to list below] that was basically a US domestic affair. yes the international press was all over it too, but sometimes more to shrug [it seemed] than to amplify it. but yeah, it was a completely different media climate at the time because the internet wasnt very widespread.

I think what I can add, while lots has already been written, is a unique POV from the conspiracy angle and putting a few elements together.

it is way to early to make any conclusions of course.

but the case reminds me of other famous hoaxes that have occurred. now, Ive read a little about the background of the maids accusations, and Im reserving judgement right now. to me that she worked at the hotel for 3 years is strong suggestion that it couldnt be a nefarious intelligence-connected trap. and of course, believe me, if there was the slightest hint/whiff of that, you know for sure Id be all over it. such "honey traps" are quite common and infamous in intelligence history, but this doesnt smell like it to me right now.

however, Strauss Kahn was ranking better than Sarkozy in public opinion polls as a candidate for french premiere. he also said in an interview not long ago he thought his opposition might pay a woman large sums of money to fabricate a sexual assault or rape accusation to destroy his chances in office. so yeah, he certainly was a top target.

the angle that interests me is info in the articles below that he wasnt "toeing the line" in his IMF presidency, listening to economic iconoclasts like Stiglitz. Stiglitz is one of my favorite economists of all time. I discovered him almost 10yrs ago researching a complex article on economics. Stiglitz at the time was one of the rare western economists that was criticizing the IMF policies as harming the poor and almost designed to incite civil unrest and inflation. Stiglitz has also come up with shocking estimates of the US Warmachine cost around $3T over 15 years that of course nobody pays attention to. hes the most outspoken uninfluential influential economist out there. does that make any sense to you?

the cases that this reminds me of in media coverage are some of the great Hoaxes of all time. I add the links below. they are the Tawana Brawley case [accusations of rape against NY Police], the Duke Lacrosse accusations [accusations of rape against Duke lacross players], and the Ashley Todd case involving Obama [accusations of assault over the Obama presidential campaign]. these all involved women, they all involved massive media frenzies. but mostly in the US only. the later case of Todd was swiftly debunked but not within a few news cycles, and it still was a major eruption.

I have read some front-page open salon articles by women who smell like hardcore feminists to me. not coincidentally the editor Emily is a "F" [yeah its not a conspiracy theory]. I have yet to see any articles with an EP arguing the alternative perspective. Im going to go out on a limb and do so.

* * *

Ladies, Gentlemen, Respected Jury. this is a sensitive topic. Rape, Sexual Assault, etcetera. I want to make the point that the dictionary definition of Assault uses the world VIOLENT. other legal definitions use the word FORCE. this is a critical component of the charge that hardcore feminists tend to gloss over or obfuscate. yet, to any reasonable person of either sex, its centrality to the charge must be and is inescapable.

women talk about what constitutes "sexual assault" on here. I saw a comment by one hardcore feminist [an accurate label nevertheless she would disavow] that merely a man touching a woman in inappropriate places constitutes Sexual Assault. madam, I beg to differ. I agree it is Rude, I agree it is Unacceptable. but I do not agree that it is Criminal. lets reserve criminal charges for real Crimes. now, context does matter, but also it doesnt matter. if a guy in a bar briefly touches a woman, nonacqaintance, on her erogenous zone, is that Sexual Assault? I say no, and how can you argue differently?

now, suppose the guy does it in an office. well now that certainly sounds like Sexual Harassment to me, but it does NOT sound like Sexual Assault to me. why? because the key element of FORCE or VIOLENCE is not present. now, I agree that maybe women can indeed be raped with less than VIOLENCE, maybe only FORCE. but it does seem to me, and it appears the law agrees with that, that FORCE IS REQUIRED to constitute rape.

now, heres some observations on the basic physics of sexual encounters. a male can have sex with a woman who does NOT RESIST. I do not condone such behavior, it is reprehensible to have sex with a woman who is "not consenting" through passivity. but is passivity the same as lack of consent? this is a subtle issue that feminists gloss over.

women are the submissive sex, its part of the dynamics of Yin and Yang. I have a longtime sig.other of 8years now, and sometimes when we have sex, I initiate it, and she is rather passive all the way up to her glorious orgasm, especially when she is very tired after a long busy week, like just last night.

is that my favorite style? of course not.... but for men, sometimes )( that is better than nothing.

so I think after several decades of intense feminist rhetoric that does not confront the key issue of Force and Violence, young males and females are genuinely confused on what actually constitutes sexual assault and rape.

when I was in college in 89-93 a notorious court case came about where a woman accused a college student of rape. [it would take me a lot of time to dig this up with google, not sure I could find it, but it would be interesting.] she lost the case! it seemed that she was not resisting his advances.

that said.... as for Strauss Kahn, if he FORCED himself on the woman, if she somehow DID resist, Im all for penalizing and locking him up for some REASONABLE amt of time.

[I would set the bar for resistance somewhat low. did she try to push him away? but it seems to me, resistance requires some kind of physical exertion or move. just saying "no".... well yeah that was nancy reagans saying for drug "chastity".... does No mean No? uh, I hate to pop this little balloon but that is not the message in massive amts of media eg Hollywood etc....]

lets have a real, fair, open trial. [as if such a thing is possible in the modern day and age with an incendiary charge and voracious/rapacious world cyber-media.] let the public watch and listen. let us collectively weigh the evidence. we havent had a real trial in this country since 911. the courtrooms and prosecutors have dust, cobwebs, and rust on them. it will be a difficult, sensational trial that the entire world will be watching. is our justice system up to the task? obamas swift reversal on trying terrorists in the US Justice  system instead of the kafka-esque military tribunals/commissions is telling.

but my msg to radical feminists is that as much as you would like to criminalize so called unwanted advances, and castrate or execute convicted sex offenders, you might as well attempt to outlaw human nature and the evolutionary process itself.

The French aren't buying it. 57% and of them, and also 70% of Socialist voters.

If you are referring to me as a "hardcore feminist," you are very much mistaken.
ok, ok, KR, maybe you are just a softcore feminist. :p
ps thx for dropping by wink =)
Not anything "core," so you are quite mistaken in the characterization, and I'm not sure using the word "smell" makes it any more palatable.
hey KR, near open-salon celebrity with hundreds of page views, two near-consecutive EPs, etc....
despite the dark subj Im trying to maintain a small sense of humor here.
there are probably some things we can agree on wrt this case. I havent read enough of your writing yet to find anything I strongly disagree with. only the original tone/slant/angle of your 1st post. but that on some level is just an abstraction.
Ive been on here 2yrs and Ive noticed that war-of-the-sexes posts tend to be highly read and highly controversial.
I dont think civility is served by that.
off the top of my head, some other cases this is reminding me of, similarities/parallels..... trials have a way of capturing zeitgeist....
- OJ simpson. world famous celebrity caught in heinous crime. obviously yes murder != rape, its a whole different scenario, not to trivialize either, all due respect
- scooter libby trial. the left wing was all over this trial and the internet coverage was very intense. [political] blogging had hit critical mass at the time and many were blogging on the trial
- bernie madoff trial. it seemed to symbolize/epitomize the age of the crash, economics zeitgeist, but also the aspect of a single scapegoat for vast swathes of unprosecuted criminality.....
SF-- believe it or not the French were some of the 1st to publish conspiracy theories on 911. our MSM actively debunked it shortly after 911. way back when the official line was actually vulnerable and still setting in peoples minds. so I dont think they are necessarily into conspiracy theories, but maybe, I guess, if it involves Americans, then well then its gotta be a conspiracy.
in any case, it is a lesson in history, if the maid's story is true, it implies he used to do this regularly, in which case there must have been others that had made noise earlier, but to them no one must have paid attention so it got out of hand and cost his supporters, his position.

lesson: # listen when people esply proles cry 'wolf', do not ignore or neglect or try to brush it aside.

If however, your conspiracy theory is true, then it implies that he used to do this regularly, his people knew, but said nothing but decided to wait to use imp intel at a time when they needed to peg him.

Lesson #: never ever think you are invincible whoever you might be and play by the rules if you are entrusted in a role that involves you to be serving the collective's interest in some manner.

And even if any of this is not true, he is just a vulgar routine thug that abuses power and the rest thugs that are taking a kick at a fallen man, it implies, in public, you might think you are invisible, but you are not.

Lesson# have an open mind about who is capable or not capable of what : every dog is fallible, even the most successful one among us will eventually make mistakes, and it helps to bide your time if you have been wronged and wish for justice or whatever. A good story. Rated. But wd never have found this unless you had mentioned it at Ted Burke's. I always thought you write about clickable beautiful women of OS. Except for your earlier pieces that is.
