A Man's Arm Length

Rate: 22 Flag

can be significant
not in length
but in distance

his distance
from you
to you

measure it discreetly
size it up
if inches mean years
think carefully

but, look also
at his shoulders
at his hands
in his eyes

that's where
the true distance
rests, waiting
for you to discern

I've been waiting for one of these. you deserve every compliment you will get for this.

Rated for tenderness and insightfulness.
A wise Frenchman once said that in love one offers the kiss and the other proffers the cheek meaning that desire is often mutual but rarely equal. This is the dynamic force in all couples; the moving towards and away from each other that can either make them dance or cause them to stumble.
Ooh, nice. I love minimalist poetry where everything has a deeper meaning.
i'm printing this one out for future reference.
Beautiful!

This is almost too good to bear. I'm all shivery. And incredibly impressed.
Thanks, Duane. You're such a dedicated reader. I appreciate that.

Madame! I love seeing you here! And your point is exactly what I was trying to say. The back and forth.... dance, stumble, stumble, dance.

Zella, you little cutie! (I remember that pic from yesterday!) I'm glad you liked it. Minimalistic was the only way to do this one, methinks.

Doloresflores, if you print it, does that somehow mean I've been published? Sort of? On a very 'small press', shall we say? Thank you.
Thanks, fireeyes. I do think it's true, too. At least, it helps me sometimes to think in these concepts.

Sally - such a generous compliment! Thank you, truly.

Julie! Thanks. Hey, about that drive you two take at night.... hmmm... what about a walk? With the dogs? Might help take the edge off. (But, remember free advice is only worth what you pay for it.)
Excellent, peacefull, and deep - it rubs at an itch I had in my soul somehow, balances. yes, Balanced.

peece,

It's all in the eyes. And you've always known that.

I enjoyed this. Crabbies gone yet?
The true distance.

That resonates. You've put a name to the thing that stretches a heart until it's thin and ragged, like a length of old twine. Rated. Bookmarked.

Sunday is either Lost Love Night at OS, or my keyboard is choosing blogs like a Ouija board. Sleep won't come easy tonight.
O! yeah, true! had never thought about it this way.
and lovely writing: compressing so much thought, feeling and insight as Duaneart says, into so few words.
rated for the writing
what a travelogue... took me inside your eyes
very insightful...and very good. I really like this.
This might just be my favorite poem I've read on OS.
You all are making me feel so good this morning! Thank you for these comments and for being willing to read a poem. (I think poetry scares off a lot of would-be readers.)

Just when I think I've come up with a new concept or idea, I find out how very universal it is. And truth be told, I love when that happens, maybe I'm not so 'out there' after all.

Please know that I'm reading these comments more than once. That's how much your opinions mean to me.
everything about this poem is perfect. I love it. So tranquil. So beautiful.
Thank you, Shivaun and Karin.

This one came quickly to me yesterday and I wrote it before the concept drifted too far. I'm glad you both liked it.
Gee, I'm just discovering you. Where've I been?!? Your poems just speak to me, for lack of a better phrase. My god, this is beautiful...Sigh...
