243 miles today, the "check engine" light
flashing the whole way
plenty of air in the tires though (to balance out the engine)
how many times does it take to listen to a song
before you stop wishing you had written the lyrics?
(I don't know yet, but more than 20)
note the cold shoulder and take your leave
you can trust a car with a pesky
engine and enough air in the tires
Don't need a bible to tell me so
I hung around a little too long
I was good but now I'm gone
Like the buffalo
That boy from Tupelo
Any way the wind can blow
That's where I'm gonna go
I'll be gone like a five and dime
It'll be the perfect crime
Just ask the boy from Tupelo
He's the king and he oughta know
The shoulder I've been leanin on
Is the coldest place I've ever known
There's nothin left for me round here
Looks like it's time to disapear
Like the buffalo
That boy from Tupelo
The old wall down in jericho
Maybelle on the radio
I'll be gone like the five and dime
It'll be the perfect crime
Just ask the boy from Tupelo
He's the king and he oughta know
You don't love me, this I know
Don't need a bible to tell me so
It's a shame and it's a sin
Everything I coulda been to you
Your last chance Texaco
Your sweetheart of the rodeo
A juliet to your romeo
The border you cross into Mexico
I'll never understand why or how
Oh but baby its too late now
Just ask the boy from Tupelo

My son insists that one has to listen to a song 7 times in order to get it. Looks like you got it.
I am so not kidding
thanks and xoxoxo
thank you. I feel the same way about you, and have since the first time I saw your face, or most of it at least.
Growing up in New York City, I never met any women named Emmylou or Peggysue.
Femme - CST
P.S. Sirenita, they ALL have trouble lights and we pay no attention to them at all, at all. *sigh*
But how in the heck would I know? I even know girls with names like Emmylou and Peggysue.
I hope this isn't going to be one of my dense days.
Don't you love the song?
And I should mention the other two lovely women on the stage with Emmylou - Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin. (I don't think it's Pattysue....)
*sigh*
I hope today is a better day for you. Just remember we are here and listening.
Is the coldest place I've ever known"
Now I understand the "cold shoulder" in the poem.
Very sad.
I'm busy and fine today. Going out for a long, long walk, maybe a teeny bit of shopping for a new pair of boots (winter's coming!) and then serving a meal at a homeless shelter late this afternoon.
Thanks for the sweet concern, dear readers.
R~~
emmy lou is always naturaly stunning.
Both of the them are stellar performers.
BTW, that's the exceptional Patty Griffin (not Nanci Griffith) singin' with Emmy and Shawn Colvin. Now, I'm not for bringing you any more pain, but you should know about Patty Griffin. Maybe wait til you are feeling better for some of her haunting, spectacular songwriting. But do check her out ('Rain,' 'Mary,' 'Top of the World,' 'Long Black Limosine,' 'Goodbye (wow)', 'Florida,' many more). If you love Emmy, you will definitely love Patty.
So, rated for sad, sweet, loving (yours), and reminding us things don't always go the way we planned.....namaste.
And yes, Dragonlady, I knew/know it's Patty up there. (I mentioned in a comment that it's Patty and Shawn Colvin, not sure how she got mixed up as Nanci.) I loooooooove Patty. The first time I saw her was probably eight or nine, maybe more, years ago when she opened for Lucinda.
"Rain" is a song I listen to every morning as I drive to work. And yes, "Mary" stops me from almost breathing. I listen to the Patty Griffin station on Pandora and hear all of her stuff. Love her.
