Firsts - Open Call

Rate: 11 Flag

Who was your FIRST prom date? The FIRST real prom I went to was with my boyfriend, Eric, who was a senior when I was a sophmore.  He was an exchange student from Belgium.

Who was your FIRST love and do you still talk with him/her? My first heartachingly true love FIRST love was David Adams. He was gorgeous; tall, dark, and handsome. I thought I'd won some universal blue ribbon when he asked me to be his girlfriend.  I became very close to his family as well.  His sister and I became best friends, and are still very close even now.  He and I don't talk but we keep up with one another through her: I still think he is gorgeous, he tells his sister he still thinks I'm beautiful. She's convinced we still belong together.

3.       What was your FIRST alcoholic drink? My grandpa would let me sneak sips from his beer - cheap ass, nasty $2 a case Falls City beer which would account for why to this day I can not stand the taste or smell of any beer.

4.    What was your FIRST job? Sadly, my FIRST paying job was unlacing and then pulling off my grandpa's Army boots when he came home.  A dime a boot.  Yup, that was the going rate.  I graduated to cleaning out his pipe; promotion to a quarter.

5.       What was your FIRST car? A very cute and sporty Ford something or another????  Come on!  I knew where the key went, the gas went, how to check the oil, and the number for the mechanic - what????

6.       Who was the FIRST person to text you today? My husband

7.       Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?  Freddy Mercury - I woke up with Bohemian Rhapsody in my head....hey, you asked.....

8.       Who was your FIRST grade teacher? Mrs. Green.  She had a beehive hairdo and wore dresses everyday.  We listened to the recorded version of Old Yeller during rest time and it made me cry every time.  She was also my Second grade teacher.

9.       When and where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane? The summer before I went into sixth grade. I flew from Nashville, TN to Portland, OR.  I remember getting a set of those little pin on wings they used to give kids - I thought I was the coolest kid ever. And my sister and I got our lunch in a pencil box that we used to keep our special stuff in for a long time afterwards.

10.   Who was your FIRST best friend & do you still talk? Diana Earthmann. I have no idea what happened to her.  We were friends in Kindergarten and First grade.  She was black and at the time, in rural TN, that was a big deal.  I remember asking my mother why Diana was black.  My mother just looked at me and said,"why are you white?" That was the only explanation I ever needed.  My Granny knit us matching stocking caps for Christmas.

11.   Where was your FIRST sleepover? I don't remember.

12.   Who was the FIRST person you talked to today? My husband.  I told him to let me keep sleeping, I didn't want to get up.

13.   Whose wedding were you in the FIRST time? Hmmm that's a toughie....what's "in"? I've sung at lots of weddings - does that mean "in"?  Otherwise, the FIRST I was a bridesmaid in was my friend Wendy's wedding.  Let's not discuss the dress - ohhhhh let's not...scary :shudder!:

14.   What was the FIRST thing you did this morning? Stumbled directly to the shower.

15.   What was the FIRST concert you ever went to? Elton John followed the next day by Lynyrd Skynyrd - couldn't have been two more diametrically opposed experiences in one weekend.  I think I left the Skynyrd concert the ONLY person not stoned and/or drunk and requiring assistance to walk.

16.   FIRST tattoo? Wait...we're supposed to have a tattoo?  Damn.

17.   FIRST piercing?  Ears.  And I'm a chicken so that's the end of that list.

18.   FIRST foreign country you've been to? Mexico. I was 3 years old. My daddy bought me a sombero with my name hand stitched on it. It was bigger than I was.  I was the cutest little blonde-headed senorita South of the Border.

19.   FIRST movie you remember seeing in the theater? Bambi. I don't think I was as traumatized by Bambi's mother being killed as I was by the idea presented by Thumper of not saying nuthin at all if I couldn't say something nice....that's sooooo wrong!!!

20.   FIRST Detention you had? I didn't get detention. I got paddles for talking too much in grade school.  Oh, and once for writing a note to a girl that was a grade higher than me and telling her she had a fat ass.  Ummm yeah, Karma got me on that one...look who has the fat ass now!

21.   What was the FIRST state you lived in? North Dakota.  I was born there.  True story.  I think I'm the only person who's willing to admit it. Apparantly, no one else has ever has been born there.  I've never met anyone that was born there. Ever.  Have you?

22.   If you had three wishes, what would the FIRST one be? To have my sister back.

23.   What is the FIRST thing you would learn if you had the chance? How to dance.

Falls City is so nasty I don't think it qualifies as an alcoholic beverage. In fact i am not sure it even qualifies as a beverage at all!
"I still think he is gorgeous, he tells his sister he still thinks I'm beautiful. She's convinced we still belong together."

So what the hell happened, sweetie?
"I was the cutest little blonde-headed senorita South of the Border"

And you still are.
What happened? Well...he graduated before I did because he was older than me. He joined the Marines and while he was away he met this Marine-ette and they got married. I found out when he brought her home - surprise! So cliche. So devastating.
His entire family was angry with him - everyone, everyone!, was upset about it. His father told him it was the biggest mistake of his life. His sister still tells him it was.

In a really weird twist we both named our first son Timothy.
Great to get to know you a little better - and why won't anyone admit to North Dakota?
That is good to know.
Dancing is cool.

Rated.
He made a BIG mistake. A really, really big one. Oh what could have, what should have been, my sweet peach.

If only I was a marine. If only. His family knew best in this case.
" I've sung at lots of weddings " you sing too? I'd love to hear that voice, floating along the wind, waving at me as it passes through my mind, my heart. How cool would that be?
You may be surprised since you put first and last names in here who might end up finding you... I put my grade school best friend's full name in a comment on one of Beth Mann's posts and my friend was trying out the new "BING" search engine, typed in her name, and up popped my comment about how she taught me to shoplift. It was a fun reunion!
I sing, yup. I don't sing as well as Outside Myself, I think. That girl sings like an angel!!
I've sung at lots of weddings, with quartets, choirs, with a band or two, did demo work for songwriters, and sang at funerals (I won't sing at funerals anymore - that's toooo depressing.)
W-A-H… your wonderful first reflects your bio – great stuff here.

So, you think you want to dance… I bet you cut a pretty good rug, since you are a singer. Your 1st car reminds me of a friend’s in high school… an old Chevy Corvair – you started it with an old knife & fork. She didn’t even know the engine was in the trunk.

WAH- Loved this and getting to know more about you.
Freddy for me as well, but music was "Don't Stop Me Now..."
First Wish: My deepest condolences.

Wow. You saw Lynyrd Skynyrd ? Lucky you!

Freebird!
How did Freddy Mercury manage to be in your head and mine at the same time? I'm going to have to talk to him about that.
Oh shit. I bet the funerals would be tough. I want people to dance and be happy at mine. None of that sad shit for me. Not good. Not good at all.

So, lady. Post a song like Angela did. I'd love to hear your voice.
I've already left instructions that everyone is to dance at my funeral and "My First, My Last, My Everything" by Barry White is to be played loudly. I do loooove me some Barry White...mmmhmmm!
I was one of those who had to be helped out of my first Skynyrd concert. They jammed their ass off. The last time I saw them was about 3 weeks before the plane crash.I got drunk that day too!!
I knew two boys from North Dakota, and I'm pretty sure they were born there. As cold as it is up there, you'd think there would be a baby boom!
"the idea presented by Thumper of not saying nuthin at all if I couldn't say something nice....that's sooooo wrong!!! " LOL You are preaching to the choir here!

paddles in school? much have been a christian school.
I don't feel so bad now about doing my FIRST post so late. Seems like everyone is playing catch up. :D

As for you being ruined on beer, what a travesty. My first experience with alcohol was also through my grandfather (what IS it with grandfathers? ;) ) - but his German heritage and general good tastes made my entry into the world of alcohol much more pleasant.

;)
I can identify with you on so many levels. Thanks for this post!
