This Is Your Journey

Rate: 17 Flag

I can’t change this for you
You must to do this for yourself
This is your journey
The path will be difficult
There may be sharp stones to tread, and deep channels to cross
Twists and turns to disorient and confuse you
But this is a path you must travel just the same
Despite the pain… because of the pain

I can’t change this for you
You must do this for yourself
This is your journey
A journey to renewal of self
Somewhere, in life’s chaos, a part of you was lost
That part of you I loved, I could laugh with, and I wanted to know
That part of you that is like no other
Follow the path leading back to who are you
Despite the pain…because of the pain

I can’t change this for you
You must do this for yourself
This is your journey
But believe me when I tell you, you aren’t alone
When you need me, I’ll be your friend
I’ll encourage you, I’ll stand with you, I’ll celebrate you
I’ll hold your hand when you need hope
But you must take this journey
Despite the pain…because of the pain

you always move me. xo
beautiful... so much wisdom in this poem. ~R~
Just beautiful. Sounds like a friend, but it also made me think of my kids. All of us should have this kind of support along our journeys.
It is the toughest part of love, and the paradox of the journey: "despite the pain, because of the pain." Hugs, sister.
Sounds like a tough time, beautifully stated and worded. Rated.
What more could anyone ask than to have someone stand beside them and support them on their journey.

So powerfully moving. I miss you, but I understand. And I send you my love.
"Despite the pain…because of the pain"

You figured it out...right. Deep and ORIGINAL.

You are so talented at putting life's realities into poetry.
"I can’t change this for you
You must to do this for yourself"
Hope you're doing well.

I wish I was a Poet so I could tell you how good this is. You have a rare gift.

"Despite the pain…because of the pain" Personal suffering is one of the best learning tools I know of. It has made me more compassionate, and probably a better person than I might have otherwise been.
Thank you all. I always appreciate your kind words.

I wish these words had made a difference to the one I meant them for.
A beautiful work. It does remind me of my kids, too.
This is a beautiful work. cy
Despite the pain...because of the pain. Absolutely. I suffered severe depression and my children suffered with me. I went into therapy to look at the ugliness in my heart that caused me to hurt them. It was awful, but something I had to do for all our sakes. I got my kids into therapy, too. We all turned out well and years later are grown, healed and happy, but it was that long dark journey into the pain that made all the difference. And I had a good guide.
"Despite the pain...because of the pain"

So much in that, and in the whole piece, in which you cannot go on another's journey and yet in a sense do. Beautiful.
