Can you tell a Fib? No, not that kind.
While browsing through a writing magazine I came across an article about a type of poem that I'd never heard of. The name alone caught my attention. A Fib is poetry form based on the Fibonacci Sequence. Oh no! Math! I hate math! (Lucky for me, to write a Fib you don't have to be a mathematical genius.)
The number of syllables in each line of the poem is the sum of the previous two lines:
1
1
2
3
5
8
etc.
Usually, a Fib is 6 lines but there isn't a limit as long as the syllables are within the sequence. Huh, sounds easy enough. So I thought I'd give it a try.
It was fun, a bit of a challenge. Because there is a limit to the amount of syllables per line, choosing words carefully is extremely important so that definitely creates an interesting writing exercise. Trying something new is always a good thing for a writer - poet or not.
Here's an article on Fib and how it came into the Poetry scene http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/print.html?id=180219
Give it a try! You can be funny, sunny, silly or smart. You can be dirty, fresh, sweet or tart. Try it! See how many Fibs you can tell.
Your
smile
brings my
heart sweet peace.
Your laughter music
above life's chaotic swell.
Where
would
I run
if not to
you? In whose arms would
I find my soul's home when I'm lost?
One
time
you made
my tears fall.
One time too many.
How do I dry the tears today?
Hold
love
dearest
in your soul,
immerse your spirit,
treasure it like a secret dream.
***And the update***
To
know
you love
me restores
my worn, weary soul.
The warmth of your embrace, the thrill
of your lips on mine, your smiling eyes so enchanting -
renew my essence, my dreams, my reason for being with each whisper of "I love you".
