I dare you to tell a Fib! (with an update)

Rate: 14 Flag

Can you tell a Fib?  No, not that kind.

While browsing through a writing magazine I came across an article about a type of poem that I'd never heard of.  The name alone caught my attention.  A Fib is poetry form based on the Fibonacci Sequence. Oh no! Math! I hate math!  (Lucky for me, to write a Fib you don't have to be a mathematical genius.)

The number of syllables in each line of the poem is the sum of the previous two lines:
1
1
2
3
5
8
etc.

Usually, a Fib is 6 lines but there isn't a limit as long as the syllables are within the sequence.  Huh, sounds easy enough.  So I thought I'd give it a try.

It was fun, a bit of a challenge.  Because there is a limit to the amount of syllables per line, choosing words carefully is extremely important so that definitely creates an interesting writing exercise.  Trying something new is always a good thing for a writer - poet or not.

Here's an article on Fib and how it came into the Poetry scene http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/print.html?id=180219

Give it a try!  You can be funny, sunny, silly or smart. You can be dirty, fresh, sweet or tart. Try it! See how many Fibs you can tell.

Your
smile
brings my
heart sweet peace.
Your laughter music
above life's chaotic swell.

Where
would
I run
if not to
you?  In whose arms would
I find my soul's home when I'm lost?

One
time
you made
my tears fall.
One time too many.
How do I dry the tears today?

Hold
love
dearest
in your soul,
immerse your spirit,
treasure it like a secret dream.

***And the update***

To
know
you love
me restores
my worn, weary soul.
The warmth of your embrace, the thrill
of your lips on mine, your smiling eyes so enchanting -
renew my essence, my dreams, my reason for being with each whisper of "I love you".

Thank you for sharing this
I love these kinds of challenges! Hot off the presses. Two from the top of my head that say more than 1000 words could ever convey:

You
thought
I was
Listening
But never once heard
What was roaring inside my heart

My
Life
Is not
Whatever
You thought it would be
Until it was no longer yours
I
could
not do this
if I tried really hard
Death
is
coming
to us all.
One of these days, Joe.
One heavenly day, Joe, it will.

Sorry to be morbid -- all I can think of is a friend of mine's wife who's dying.
I
Think
No, know
Fibs are dumb

The invention of Andy H.
You guys are great! I love it that you've jumped in so quickly and given this a shot.

Scanner - of course you can do this. If I can do it you can for sure!
Skeletnwmn - I'm sorry about your friend's wife.
Nick - You made me smile.
Cartouche - If those just flew off the top of your head, I can't imagine what would happen if you put some real thought into it - awesome!
Andy - You made me giggle.
I'm
in.
After
all, it is
not often I hear
I can be dirty, fresh, or tart.
Yes
this
isn't what
you might think,
maybe it's something
already perceived in my mind.
I
love
to feel
your caress,
your fingers through my
hair, renewing my trust in us.
You
Seem
to have
mastered it,
this fun new art form,
at least new to me and my friends!

Fun
post.
I'm not,
nor have I
ever, ever been
a practiced fibber.
My blush always gives me away!

Oh
No!
It took
me two years
to stop Soduko

I
Thought
I'd lie
and impress
Walk Away thereby
I didn't guess the exercise
I

We all Fib.
What I want to know
Is how do I get some ice cream?
Beautiful. I hope to try this at some point!
10 point bonus to walkaway for the 22 syllable line!
