I'm looking for a place to hide From the real world From my fears From the wrinkles and the wobbly step From ingratitude From attitude and pain I'm looking for a place to hide My self-respecting pride My childhood dreams My love affairs My bliss My life Myself I'm looking for a place to be Without revealing What's NOT me Where people and myself would see Only the part I know is me

Younger Woman Wears Grey

Rate: 1 Flag

Don't judge me

Don't feel sad

Don't try to change me

I am just fine

Wearing my old grey pijamas

Letting the world go by in its rush

While I sit back and relax with a good book

Indulge in the guilty pleasures of a shallow TV show

While you run around around around

Always running in search of something

I have found in the stillness of pain

The joy of sitting still and watching

The comfort of grey has nothing to prove to others

The book is a lady's best friend on lonely nights

And the pain, don't ask about the pain

I can cope.

Don't judge me. But perhaps, do drop by...

Bring me a book or an old DVD

Share a piece of pie and a Starbucks Latte

Don't judge me. Perhaps we could just chat for a change.

Or play Scrabble?

Shut down your computer and come.

My door is open, my house is clean and ready for guests.

Just don't judge.

"The shoe fit" so to speak... this is in response to Zanelle's post on "Older Women who Wear Grey instead of Purple"... hopefully in our youth and success-oriented world we find enough heart to at least not judge those who are out, whether by choice or circumstances. I am sure this is unfortunately a minority view, if only judged by the ratings...
I love your poem. I understand being happy to be quiet, stress free and coping well with pain. Your poem really made me think and I know I am judgmental just like my mother. I think every situation is different and it is wrong to put people in compartments. My friend is struggling with her new loss of movement and she needs to get the courage to go out of the house and face her fears. She has a computer for emails but does not understand how to find any other uses for the thing.
As I was writing this I knew that I was ignoring some fire inside her. She has lots more than just grey in her mind and yet I see her missing some opportunities that no one can give her but herself. I see you writing poems and enjoying Open Salon and I think you might have quite a bit of color in you. I am loud and garish sometimes and hope I haven't offended you too much. At least we got that great poem out of this exchange.
